Occasional poet, music lover, husband, father, priest. Likes running and cycling and West Ham. Rector of Sacred Trinity Salford. “Occasional” was only supposed to apply to “poet”!

When the story of why humanity didn't stop climate change is written, it will feature front pages like this. Even as the skies blacken with climate change-induced wildfires, right wing media continue their relentless crusade against measures to tackle it.

The Times: Net zero risks blackouts. Below a photo of French wildfires.

My parents are 91 and getting pretty frail. They are considering moving to a care home in Salford or Manchester to be nearer to us and so I'm beginning the search. Any recommendations of good care homes would be much appreciated.

Today is the Great Manchester Run so watch out for road closures and bus diversions although mainly this will be Deansgate to the Quays so won't affect church too much. Michaela and I are doing the run with L'Arche and if you want you can donate to L'Arche here: larche.enthuse.com/pf/mancheste...

What a wonderful Easter celebration today. Thanks to all who came and to all who make Sacred Trinity the fantastic diverse, colourful, welcoming community that we are as we live in the light of the risen Christ. Alleluia, Christ is Risen!

The current argument of the British right is that Muslims turned out in "blocs" with "family voting" to cast their ballots for a party led by a gay Jewish man, and this shows that multiculturalism has failed, voting is "sectarian" and we are in a crisis. Hmmmmmm.

The street in Minneapolis where Renee Good was killed by ICE. Now a place of pilgrimage. Steady stream of people laying flowers and paying their respects. Many in tears and speaking of the deep fear they have of the federal government itself.

What a bizarre thing to do. Any decent human being would have refused to accept it if offered. And he takes it grinning. In 1943, Herman Göring was similarly given a nobel prize by Knut Hamsun, who was awarded it for literature and was a rascist. Look it up! www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...

I’m really enjoying reading this book (even if it often makes me sad or angry!) but I’m also watching Pluribus and keep wondering if Carol would be a lot happier if she didn’t live in such a car dependent, poorly designed cul-de-sac?

🧵In my expert opinion as a researcher of vehicle ramming attacks, what has been publicly described in the video evidence does not support the claim that Renee Nicole Good was attempting a deliberate ramming attack when she was shot in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. 1/7

AOC excoriated Vance here. Let’s see how the American public responds to Vance's “we believe young mothers should be shot in the street” political slogan. After this week, that line will forever and always be JD's rallying cry.

No Worldle this isn’t right. These are measurements of different things. If you are comparing local authority areas then “London” (the City of London, London Borough) isn’t even in the top 10. If you are measuring Conurbation size then Greater Manchester is the second largest in the UK.
