The plan to drill a new tunnel, build an industrial haul road, and lower the level of Spirit Lake would be absolutely catastrophic for the lake, the recovering blast zone, and for local communities. It would also waste hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.

Megadam “will dwarf all other hydroelectric projects in the world with its estimated 300 terawatts of annual power output - three times output of Three Gorges Dam on Yangtze, world's current largest dam, more than entire U.S. produced in net hydropower in 2024.” www.livescience.com/planet-earth...

'They are trying to tame nature': China is building the world's biggest dam in an earthquake-prone region of Tibet

China is building a dam system that will generate more hydroelectric power than the U.S. generates yearly. But the project comes with huge risks for people downstream.

#AcademicFreedom erosion “is part of broader democratic backslide that we’re seeing in US” says Jennifer Jones at UCS. I’ve witnessed this demise at my own college especially since the pandemic. Faculty are decreasingly supported as content creation experts. www.chemistryworld.com/news/academi...

Academic freedom slides globally, as it takes a nosedive in the US

The last decade has seen institutional autonomy curbed in 50 countries

Attn pension fund managers (inc #WSIB): Check out what happened in March. As we’ve been saying, it’s urgent to #divest from fossil fuels and invest in renewable clean energy projects & infrastructure. Your hard earning beneficiaries will be made much more secure. www.canarymedia.com/articles/cle...

In a first, renewables beat natural gas on US grid last month

It’s just one month, but it’s a sign of where the U.S. is headed as renewable energy — namely solar — surges onto the grid.

Braun has been my #LD20 state senator for many years. We are on opposite sides on almost every issue, especially climate & protecting public lands. #WA03 rep race should not be GOP Braun nor GOP lookalike MGP. #Hennrich looks to me to be fantastic candidate! Progressives - let’s give him a boost.

Brent Hennrich 🇺🇸 For Congress (D) 💯PRO CHOICE!@bhennrich.bsky.social · 4mo ago

It's sad how MGP votes with Trump so often and doesn't even get recognition for it. Makes one question why she does it?

Off to #PIELC (enviro law conference) in Eugene. Hope to see many of my forest buddies there! The sessions look fantastic, hard to choose. Camping in the area so wish me less atmospheric river conditions than having at home right now.

Good news! In a blow to Trump's 'drill, baby drill' agenda, zero companies bid for the chance to drill for oil and gas in Alaska's Cook Inlet. This comes after we notified the Interior Department last month of our intent to sue over the planned unlawful lease sale on March 4.

Trump keeps trying to auction off this US property for oil drilling. No one is buying. | CNN

A federal deadline came and went this week for oil companies to bid on around 1 million acres of drilling territory off Alaska’s Cook Inlet.

Several inches of fresh snow for my birthday yesterday, yeah! Photo not my best work but I like it because it shows a view of the river from one of my favorite spots on my property. Accompanying Haiku. Columbia view River beyond snowy trees Smell the cold fresh air.

“Red meat, in particular, has an outsized impact upon the planet—beef requires 20x more land and emits 20x more GHG per gram of protein than common plant proteins, such as beans.” #Vegetarian diets use far less water, land. Heavy red meat diets cause heart disease. RFK’s new food pyramid is bonkers.

If you live in WA leg district 20, support & vote for #AndyZahn! It’s rare when we LD20 voters have opportunity to vote for anyone but the incumbent. More vitally though Andy is super smart, energetic, passionate about sustainable land use, forest preservation, and biodiversity. Lifelong LD20 local.

My platform: 1. Industrial hemp 2. New parks where we live 3. Revitalizing rural communities We need real solutions for the challenges we face in rural Washington State. We must forge a better future for ourselves and future generations.

Does Drumpf realize his hypocrisy? He said “senseless killing of protesters [must] stop” not referring to here in US. Iranian protestors obviously shouldn’t be killed, but neither should we here peacefully expressing ourselves and fulfilling our humanitarian responsibility to protect our neighbors.

RIP Renee Nicole Good. Tragic! My heart is with her child, wife, family, and friends. WTH has happened to the U.S. that I love??? I’m so sad for our country but I’ll keep on marching and protesting and using my free speech rights until we swing back to humanity, love, and care for each other.

Renee Nicole Good was 37 - A U.S. citizen - and a poet — her wife watched her be murdered and is now a single parent to a 6 year old This regime has been defined by the endless tragedies it’s caused — we owe it to the victims to fight for the accountability they 💯 percent deserve

Are the Republican congressional members going to continue to abdicate all their responsibilities under the U.S. constitution to provide oversight and check and balance over the executive branch? Even when Trump swoops into PM Carney’s bedroom, abducts him, and decides to “run” Canada too??? MF DJT.

Angus: We see this attack as setting the stage for an attack where Trump could go anywhere. The same language he’s used against Venezuela, he’s used against Canada—and he sees that we have immense resources. The difference is, good luck thinking that you are going to break the Canadian people.

Compare Mamdani’s speech w/ Trump’s crud about “hating” those who think differently than him or use their constitutional right to speak against hate, racism, cruelty. If dem party is to survive, they’ll listen, take notes, build-in a Dem Socialist platform. So proud to be New Yorker (by birth) today

Mamdani: "While only action can change minds, I promise you this: If you are a New Yorker, I am your mayor. Regardless of whether we agree I will protect you, celebrate with you, mourn along side you, and not for a second hide from you."

RIP Rob and Michele Reiner. Married 35 years. Such talent, genuinely kind and generous people. Rob changed my life with movies like When Harry Met Sally that I quote frequently. So clever! Such a brilliant Director and Actor. Rob gave space and support to his cast to be their best. I’m heartbroken!
