#OnThisDay in 1508, England’s Henry VII issued a Charter of Pardon, forgiving the Cornish for twice rising in arms against him. The Charter re-confirmed and strengthened the rights of the Cornish Stannary Parliament meaning it could veto legislation passed in Westminster. DEVOLUTION NOW!

The Battle of Hill 112 was fought during the liberation of Normandy on this day in 1944. The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry played a key role in the battle and the hill became known as 'Cornwall Hill'.

The Bude Canal opened on this day in 1823. It ran from the port of Bude to north of Launceston, with a another branch going near Holsworthy in Devon. The canal cost just under £120,000 to build.
On this day in 1548, Cornish priest Sir Martyn Geffrey is hanged, drawn and quartered in London following the murder of William Body. Body had been sent to Helston by the English government to tear down religious icons. He was stabbed to death. www.cornwallforever.co.uk/history/the-...

#OnThisDay in 1643, the Battle of Lansdowne took place near Bath. One of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, it led to the death of the much-loved Cornish commander Sir Bevil Grenville. Ultimately, the Cornish Army was successful and forced the Parliamentarians from the summit of the hill.

On this day in 1497, Michael Joseph An Gof and Thomas Flamank, leaders of the Cornish uprising against Henry VII were executed. On their way to the gallows An Gof said he would have “a name perpetual and a fame permanent and immortal”. The Cornish would twice more rise in arms against the Tudors.

Gool Germogh Lowen! | Happy Feast of St Germoe! Reputed to have been an Irish king 🇮🇪👑 who, together with others including his sister Breaca, arrived in west Kernow 〓〓 to convert the Cornish (photo shows Germoe and Breaca).
Gool Mewan Lowen! | Happy Feast of St Mewan! Born in Cymru 🏴, Mewan came to Kernow 〓〓 establishing a church at St Mewan. Preaching amongst the Celtic speaking people, he moved to Breizh ➕and is remembered there at Gaël where he founded a monastery.

#OnThisDay in 1497, a Cornish-led army fought one of the then largest-ever assembled English armies at Blackheath, Kent. The Cornish fired “arrows, which were reported to be the length of a tailor’s yard, so strong and mighty a bow the Cornishmen were said to draw”.
