Pitch: As an Angel, it is Azrael’s sacred duty to protect the last vestiges of humanity against the vicious demons that swarm Heaven’s shores, but since returning from her last battle with chronic injuries and lost memories, she has been stuck in Heaven — shunned by her brethren and shamed for inability to fight. So when a fellow Angel named Samael returns from battle in need of mental rehabilitation, Azrael jumps at the opportunity to offer him her counsel, desperate to prove herself useful once again.
But counseling Samael is far more difficult than Azrael anticipated. He insists that there is something wrong with Heaven, and that the Angels are being lied to about their true purpose. As much as Azrael wants to dismiss his doubts, his description of the battlefield paints a disquieting image of Heaven: not as a defensive sanctuary, but a slaughterhouse that turns its victims’ children into the cogs of its violent machinery. As Azrael starts to notice the cracks in Heaven’s perfect facade and her own hazy memories from the battlefield come back to haunt her, she is forced to make a choice: keep Samael quiet and protect the Angels’ sacred way of life — knowing that the Seraphim have the blood of innocents on their hands — or expose Heaven for what it truly is, and destroy the only home she’s ever known.

This is what I tell myself as I fiddle with the sleeve of my robes, waiting for the congregation to gather for morning Mass. Through the stained glass windows of the Church, all I see is the darkness of a day yet to dawn.
It is far too early for me to be sitting in the empty pews, but I could not sleep. How could I, on this most blessed of days, waste even the earliest hours of the morning on something so trivial as sleep? Not when there is so much to celebrate. Not when there is so much at stake.
Today marks one year since my return from Crusade. One year since I stumbled through Heaven’s Gate, of broken body and broken mind, to become Heaven’s invalid. It is normal for an Angel to take time upon their return to rest and recuperate — the plights of battle take their toll on us all — but a year later, and I am still useless in the eyes of my brethren. Broken in the eyes of the Seraphim.
