The hot weather has caused an upsurge in trees falling, as they are unable to replenish the water they lose from their leaves, creating “water stress”. Cracks can develop within branches and trunks, weakening the strength of the tree.

The state of this. A lovely day out for Badenoch and Philp, playing dress up and making pronouncements about early release schemes - having left the country with one hundred available men's prison places, after fourteen years in charge. You read that right. One hundred places.
Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.

Cllr Sam Casey-Rerhaye, who proposed the SODC motion, said: “The Code of Practice creates a real risk that trans people will be excluded from essential services and public spaces. We want to ensure everything is done to prevent this. It is heartening to see such cross-party support.”

Jason Hickel: "This new study finds that the total death toll in Europe during the June heatwave exceeds 20,000 people." "This result highlights the accelerating threat of mass heat mortality events in Europe despite previous adaptations to heat." Pre-print below.
According to the data from flight trackers July 23rd was the busiest day for commercial air travel ever recorded, and in other news, as this summer of extreme heat continues multiple countries are being consumed by wildfires, but that is probably just a coincidence.

We tend to think of “charitable giving” as unambiguously good because we equate “charities” with organizations that help the poor and equate “giving” with generosity. But both assumptions are wrong.

Terrifying to see wildfires raging through Scotland. The climate crisis isn't a distant threat - it's right here and right now. How many warning signs and alarm bells until Andy Burnham takes action to end oil and gas drilling?

Industrial poultry farming is killing our rivers. But rather than stop it, the government has been facilitating it. Will Andy Burnham end this ecocide, asks Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Western Europe had its hottest June on record.🔥 Intense heatwaves broke temperature records, with peaks up to 9°C above average in France and Germany, according to Copernicus data. Only Cyprus and Malta had normal temperatures. Climate change is here and we are feeling its effects
Wow! No understanding of “e-bike”. An e-bike refers to a legal bike with e-assist limited to 15.5mph. An e-bike won’t move without the rider pedalling. An illegal e-bike has a throttle, is not speed restricted and moves without the rider pedalling. These need regulation.
Regrettably, both the BBC and the Met Police have contributed to this widespread confusion by using term 'e-bike' wrongly, e.g. see BBC report of 30 Dec 2025 on a Met Police operation in #Merton. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Hard to think of a more deeply damaging start to Burnham’s premiership than giving green light to new oil & gas in N. Sea, if true. It won’t lower bills or lead to greater energy security but will drive an even hotter planet. What a terrible signal to give to rest of the world #ClimateVandalism

I ask Sadiq Khan about new oil and gas on Thursday: he refuses to answer properly. By the afternoon: we find out he's a Labour Lord. 48 hours later: we find out Labour are pushing ahead with this climate crime. We cannot trust Labour to tackle the climate crisis.
Extreme heat is killing thousands. Wildfires are burning. In order to secure a liveable future we have to leave all fossil fuels in the ground. Why can't Labour party politicians be honest & direct about that?
