Right. This thing. The publisher was Candlewick. I had a two MG book deal with them until the editor asked me to put sexual assault in as a character’s backstory. I told them no, that SA is a personal boundary that I won’t cross. He scoffed at my boundary and tried to argue it.

the fact that ideas are the easiest part of creating stories makes them feel kinda sinister. like they just wander into your life, get you all riled up, and then they grab a drink, take a seat in your head and taunt you to actually do something about them.
