Still obsessed with Sylvia Townsend Warner. Making cocktails and talking about cats. (I am a dixhuitiemiste at an R1, but mostly teach film and whatever-the-hell-else they want me to teach.)
Good lord there are a lot of bad faith accounts of Emily Wilson’s argument buzzing around. She doesn’t care that the film isn’t literal enough! She cares that the writing is bad, that Odysseus is an uxorious sad sack, that the women are desexualized and given little to do or say/
Ok, got it. Fuck Trump and the horses-asses he rode in on.
Rep. Himes: "The president was setting the basis for him to turn around on election night and say, 'I warned you that the Chinese were doing x, y, and z. It happened tonight. I'm deploying federal officers from DHS to 7 states. They will be seizing ballot boxes.'"
Please tell me so I don’t have to hear his voice: what is the psycho’s speech about?
The US Men's Soccer Team is crushing right now thanks to birth right citizenship.
Motherfucking fuckers I hope you all (in the majority) suffer for the rest of your pathetic lives
The Voting Rights Act is essentially dead and it’s quite possible that we will, like when a similar SCOTUS gutted civil rights at the fall of Reconstruction, see a disappearance of much of the Black congressional representation, especially in the most heavily Black states, which are in the South.
I cannot fully express how much I love the DC Metro. Happy birthday darling!
Happy birthday to the Washington Metro, which opened 50 years ago today with service on 4.6 mi of Red Line between Rhode Is. Ave & Farragut N. System now serves 130 mi. The DC Metro shows that, with good planning & enough investment, the public sector can succeed & build something extraordinary.
Who knew that Artemisia Gentileschi looked like Lena Dunham??
Uuuuuuuuugggggghhhhhhhhhhhh What a clusterfuck. Listening to this every day for counter-programming.

Yes, this is it exactly. To watch someone becoming *more* powerful, *more* beautiful, *more* joyfully alive in her 60s was breathtaking.
O’Hara was incredible forever, on SCTV, the Christopher Guest movies, Beetlejuice, Home Alone, etc. But she didn’t become as famous as her talent warranted until her 60s. Suddenly it was like everyone caught up to her, and she could’ve worked forever. To have her taken away at this moment? No.
They were smashing him in the face with a tear gas canister before killing him.
If you're living somewhere outside the USA, one thing you can do is pressure your leaders to boycott World Cup and Olympic events here.
I know everybody lives The Pitt, but man, there is some weird gender shit in this show. So many bad moms, so much himpathy for wounded men, so much heroism.
Well goddammit what am I going to do without the House of Guinness?
