Today marks 6 months since we launched our free footage platform, OpenJournalism.Network. From the very beginning of this project — back when we were using Canva-owned platforms — it's been very clear that there is a huge demand for the kind of footage we provide.

Octobers are a big month at InOldNews. Not only because it's my partner in crime's ( for all things work and life ❤️ ) birthday month. Last October, we put the openjournalism.network out in the world after extensive testing and revision.

Is this image offensive or inappropriate? Pixabay, a stock footage & photo library owned by Canva thought so. It's a still from a No Kings protest that we recorded in San Francisco. The clip focuses on a flag that says 'Abide No Hatred,' so we were surprised when Pixabay flagged it as offensive.

Our co-founders @sanshey.inold.news and @manon.inold.news just wrapped a training on AI in Journalism in Nairobi. Over the course of the training, journalists tried out more than 10 tools. They explored how these tools can be used in written, audio, video and data formats.

Our commitment to not using AI is very real. It's in the union contract to disclose it if we ever do. World is a slop minefield and we're sorry.
