Yes. Also, field trip fees, band/art/lab fees, and school meals. A public education should actually be publicly funded. I went to very low-income public schools, and kids missed out because of costs that middle class people literally never even thought about.

Rob Saucedo@robsaucedo.bsky.social · 2d agoJuly 2026 was the most successful month the River Oaks Theatre has experienced since reopening in October 2024. That's impressive in its own right, but July 2026 was a 40 percent growth over the July 2019 box office for the River Oaks Theatre.

My trainer told me about a woman she trained who was clearly in crisis. Another woman in her class befriended her and said, "I'm concerned about you," and she was really confused! She didn't see anything wrong. Went to the doctor and the doctor was like, "thank god you came when you did."

It's a real struggle to get through these relentlessly awful days, so I seek out antiques stores to putter around in. Today was the antiques mall at I-10 and Wilcrest and boy howdy, did I leave even more depressed than when I went in. All the sad old vendors sitting around comparing health woes.

We mowed the backyard this morning and I saw a house finch and a cicada killer and all manner of bee and butterfly.
I've had a pretty lousy week. Only two workouts in. Much existential despair. People mad at me. Can't get through Dave Eggers' latest book when I was doing so well with my reading. I need a haircut. It's so hot. But at least the guy yelling in the grocery store parking lot said he liked my boobs.
I am considering putting my other senior cat to sleep soon. Caper is 16 and she's not getting around great. Impossible to get vetted properly. Borderline feral. Didn't think I'd have to think about this so soon after Juniper, but here we are.

What is going on with the 75 percent of "non-MAGA Republicans" then? If these people really exist, they're people who need at least one granddaughter to sit them down and have a heart-to-heart. Be brave, Texas granddaughters. Your country needs you.

The details of Glen Hansard’s death feel uneasy to me. His motorcycle was the only one involved in his death, and it was at 4:30 a.m. The man had a four-year-old child. The situation feels bad. What in the world was he doing?
Foster kittens Sweet Potato, Baby Rose, Sparkle Motion and Professor Naptime have their ticket out of here tomorrow. It has been chaos, but their constant purring might make me forget that I have to replace a bunch of pet beds that were shat upon with parasite-infected shit.
