I saw a Goldwater campaign button/pin in a thrift shop last week. I’ve been thinking ever since about the pattern of institutional reconfiguration that is exposed by the different responses to 1964 & 2024 campaigns. 60 years apart. It’s startling & unnerving how fast things can change sometimes.
I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.

Yes. Also, field trip fees, band/art/lab fees, and school meals. A public education should actually be publicly funded. I went to very low-income public schools, and kids missed out because of costs that middle class people literally never even thought about.

Anyone could die from Cyclosporiasis, but they want you to believe it can’t happen to you. It can only happen to the weak, the disabled, the elderly. The expendable people. Eugenics.

Extremely true. I just took the dogs outside for a couple of minutes, and it was very smoky. My throat is burning and I have a headache, which are both unusual for me with that brief of an exposure at this AQI.

My mom’s dog: no brush out, only run through sticker bush He was actually very cool about it; idk why I’m defaming a perfectly lovely dog. But I did just comb 308 little velcro seeds out of his fur (yes, I counted) so I’m a bit fried. For the record, the sticker bush run didn’t happen on my watch.

Disgusting. Only tangentially related: when I was a kid, I thought that the reason dogs paw/kick the ground after they poop was to wipe their paws since they can’t wash hands like us.

Karen K. Ho@karenho.bsky.social · 2d agoI wonder if these people also wash their hands consistently after using the bathroom or using public transit and touching doors in public areas. It was shocking to learn how many people did not and had to be taught proper standards to reduce the risk of transmitting Covid-19.
It's actually important to care about the real mechanisms involved in the experiences and choices we are seeing, versus the narratives of shame that we think will work to cause people to feel bad, if we care about providing better paths for behavior.
