We could be seeing the first dominoes to fall in the end of fossil fuel hegemony and the end of the US petrodollar. SA needs oil revenue to run its country. It's reserves are tied in US treasuries that they will need to sell to get liquidity, putting even more upwards pressure on bond yields.

If Canada wants to be a leader in AI technology, now is the time to actually show some leadership. Reject pax silica, reject US demands for free, unauthorized use of our IP and data, debate publicly whether the Chinese approach is a better way for most applications, lead Cohere in that direction.

Very much this. Holding space for refusal of this tech is a key resistance strategy. That means advocating for that option in e.g. school policies (if we can't get a full ban) but also simply being visible in our own refusal, so that others see it as possible.
