Both types: curate for who you're showing to. I think lots of folio advice can make it seem like there's a One True Best Practice TM for your folio, but curating to purpose shows that that you have good awareness of your own work *and* the ability to select for what a client/reviewer needs to see

AI users, after it falls out of favor and collapses, will then be competing for jobs with people who *didnt* forfeit years of skill development. People who were our peers in 2020 will essentially have fallen 6-7 years behind.

if "gen ai" models can take our work, i'm gonna start taking back. my body of work definitely helped train these models. so I worked on Divinity now

When I was 8, I watched a “how to draw Spirit [the horse]” special feature, where James Baxter sits at a desk, in an office, drawing for work. This was huge news. I imagined packing my dad’s briefcase with colored pencils and printer paper on my way to The Drawing Office. I had to make it there!

if your values hit this won't matter! beyond that, color is relative anyway, so it's not about the hex code but instead the relationship between colors in your piece. if your hue turns are so minor and precise as to be ruined on a different monitor, then I guarantee they're not working anyhow

You can calibrate your screens perfectly, but then 25k people will see it on their shitty $50 monitors or cracked phone and its out of your hands. Don't think of it. Achieve enlightenment.

Mm. If I had to guess, I think one reason art discourses like these happen so much is bc a lot of our workforce is really young and new, and there is very little opportunity to maintain institutional knowledge—a lot of our colleagues and forebears burn out and go elsewhere.
Do I (or do you?) know anybody who does commissioned digital art, is available, and can (with urgency) create an incredible, soft, ephemeral magical water painting-style piece? While I know tons of incredible game artists I sadly never paid too much attention to their waterpainterly work.
