Mainly imagining a better world. Apparently quixotic (she/her)

“Hidden” if you’ve ignored every other scandal, act of violence, whistle blown. Horrific but sadly not “shocking” as Starmer says - it’s exactly what you’d expect based on recent evidence. Let’s see how long it takes govt and police to forget and move on this time www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I feel like this hasn’t been said loudly enough: if you want to protest and do so at the place of residence of people with no power or influence, that isn’t a protest. It’s intimidation and harassment, and inherently violent

We’ll listen to people who want trans folk not to exist - they say they’re not biased

Their concern is only for suicides that could directly be linked to the ban - so those that immediately follow prohibitive change. They don’t give a shit about those pushed to suicide 20 years later as a direct result of permanent physical changes caused now. Harder to prove a causal link you see

Puberty blocker ban is made permanent
Eleanor Hayward - Health Editor
Puberty blockers have been indefinitely banned as they pose an “unacceptable safety risk” for children wanting to change gender, the government has announced.

Wes Streeting, the health secretary, said the decision was based on the advice of independent medical experts, adding that “we do not yet know the risks of stopping pubertal hormones at this critical life stage”. Private clinics will not be able to prescribe or supply the drugs, although a clinical trial of puberty blockers in children at NHS clinics will go ahead next year.

The blockers suppress the release of sex hormones, which are naturally produced by the body to start puberty, between the ages of 8 and 14. The drugs pause the physical changes of puberty such as breast growth or facial hair.

They were given to thousands of children at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust’s gender identity development service clinic from 2011. In May the NHS banned their use after a review by Dr Hilary Cass found a lack of evidence that they were safe or effective, and warned they may permanently damage fertility and brain development.

The government introduced temporary legislation banning the sale and supply of puberty blockers, amid concerns patients were using a loophole to get them privately after the NHS ban. Streeting told the Commons yesterday that he would make the ban indefinite, with the legislation reviewed in 2027.

He said: “The independent expert Commission on Human Medicines found that the current prescribing and care pathway for gender dysphoria and incongruence presents an unacceptable safety risk for children and young people.

“Dr Cass’s review also raised safety concerns around the lack of evidence for these medical treatments. We need to act with caution and care when it comes to this vulnerable group of young people, and follow the expert advice. We are working with NHS England to open new gender identity services, so

A double-blind study isn’t just unethical it’s impossible. Puberty blockers are extremely effective for their primary function (suspending puberty). They want trials to study secondary (psychological) impacts but due to the effectiveness of primary function everyone would know who was on a placebo

A Joint Statement from LGBT+ Lib Dems, Out for Independence, LGBTIQA+ Greens and Rainbow Greens on the UK Puberty Blockers ban.

The decision to ban puberty blockers across the UK, by the Westminster Labour Government and the Northern Ireland Executive, is incredibly distressing and dangerous. Putting thousands of young trans people at immense risk.

We have seen young trans people scale buildings, march in the streets, and camp outside England’s Department for Education, for days on end. And for almost a hundred days, left paper coffins outside the constituency office of the UK’s Health Secretary, Labour MP Wes Streeting, warning him of the dangers of a ban.

And despite urgent pleas by trans people. It was ignored. The inhumanity of weaponising the healthcare of marginalised young people, putting lives at risk, is unforgivable.

Glad IUD insertion is mentioned. I know it pales in comparison to many experiences but that agony is so avoidable. Instead, you’re told pain varies from zero to mild. When it’s excruciating you’re treated as ‘abnormal’, so it’s your body’s stupid fault (a common thread) tinyurl.com/MedMisogyny

Dear lib/left, arguing with people who are being violently attacked by a political party because of they way they were born that they should vote for that political party because it’s better than another is the height of privilege. Stop doing it
