I should add that the Russian Mission Control Center, the TsUP, which monitors the ISS and Soyuz missions, is located in Korolyov. Picture one of the buildings at the Johnson Spaceflight Center in the Clear Lake region in Houston, Texas, getting attacked. That's kind of what happened.

SpaceX Falcon 9 Upper Stage Impact: At approximately 06:35 UTC on Wednesday 5 August 2026, a discarded SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage is predicted to strike the Moon near Einstein Crater at ≈2.43 km/s, roughly 7× the speed of sound. The four-tonne stage launched two lunar landers, Firefly’s Blue Ghost-1 and ispace’s Hakuto-R Resilience, in January 2025 and was left in a highly elliptical Earth orbit. It is expected to create a crater ~20–30 m across and an ejecta plume. By observing the collision and photographing the resulting crater, researchers can test models of impact flashes, ejecta behaviour and space-debris hazards that will matter more as people and spacecraft return to the Moon.
