Hi, I'm Neil, a Linux advocate and Linux-only gamer, from Scotland. I'm also a techie - 20 years in Networking, and 10 in Cyber Security, so basically I speak fluent TLA. I also occasionally dabble with programming (Python mainly) and retro gaming too.

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

Some wild Stockholm Syndrome shit here. Dunking on the entire O/S because of you found a bug in a gnome tool... a bug you've already worked around. A bug that would affect a tiny proportion of normal users. Probably an NTFS drive too, given I've never, ever experienced this. Calm yer horses.

I get really frustrated with Linux people who insist it's ready for prime time, because it remains an OS for people who want to learn how an OS works. The utter fucking annoyance of adding an additional hard drive is maddening. In Windows or MacOS, you just plug it in and you're done. Linux? Nope.

Not speaking ill of the dead is the greatest crock of shit, and you know why? Nobody has to invoke it whenever someone beloved died, you'll hear outpourings from fans about how authors touched their lives, people reminiscence about their favourite actors' best roles, a celebration of their lives...

This takes away the skill the streamer brings to the equation. I watch excellent players play difficult games because I learn from them. Noita, for example, is so deep, I'd never have discovered even a fifth of what it offers without incredible talent like FuryForged.

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has reportedly said that if players are satisfied just watching a stream of a game being played, then the game may not be good enough. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/if-play...

Hi exciting update for those who follow me for CSP on linux. I finally finished putting together an install script that brings a bunch of fixes for Clip Studio Paint Linux users. Currently looking for people to test across different distros, thank you! github.com/parka6060/CS...

Example of CSP running on linux.

one interesting thing so far about loudly hating AI is the way AI lovers are like "wow so you're just totally closed off to hearing another perspective??" as if their perspective hasn't been relentlessly pushed down our throats with no space to push back (particularly in professional settings)

Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes! "Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."

Scientists no Longer Find Twitter Professionally Useful, and have Switched to Bluesky
