Well I see that the japanese beetles are back with a vengeance. Those weren’t there when we left 10 days ago.
I've been at my inlaws for the last week or so, and a couple of days ago I had to drive their 2025 Hyundai Tucson. I like driving. In my 38 years of it I've driven a lot of different cars. I've disliked some of them, but I've never felt hostility towards a car like I do this one ..1/n

The house that I grew up in had a sour cherry tree in the back corner of the property. It was tucked right up next to the property line at the top of a small but fairly steep hill. When I was primary school age my brother and I used to climb it. 1/3
A newer GM pickup was in front of me this morning waiting to make a turn. I thought "that thing is as big as a tank", and as it turns out: GMC Sierra 2500HD: 6.36m long, 2.07m wide (w/o mirrors, so probably 2.5m+ with them), 2.02m h M4 Sherman Tank: 6.27m long, 2.62m wide, 2.74m high
Since “defunding the pillars of society in order to save money” and “giving all the money to police and wealthy pricks” are core tenets of conservatism, I think as a society we ought to consider “conservative” a dangerous indecent thing to be, and those who identify as such should pay a social cost.
The reason to not defund all the pillars of a functioning society to save money is that society collapses and no money is saved. The reason to not spend all the money on police and tax breaks for wealthy pricks is then the wealthy pricks have everything in a police state designed to protect them.

I wonder, if you polled people, how much extra they would pay each year to have their city *not* be covered in thick, choking wildfire smoke for days at a time. I wonder if that might give you more insight into "willingness to pay" vis a vis climate change than asking in the abstract.

I heard a pet peeve of mine on the radio just now which seems somewhat common among younger millenials/older gen-z females, which is that words starting with st- mysteriously grow a ch sound, so “strike” becomes “schtrike”. I have no idea what would have caused this
