I think the tech of LLMs, generative "AI," etc is super fuckin' cool. I'm less fond of the hype, the oversell, the yoking of our economy to a small handful of hugely overvaulated companies and the utter contempt the CEOs of these companies clearly have for the vast majority of humans.

to be fair I don't think you'd much like "AI" even if they hadn't stolen your work to train it for, you know, all the other listed reasons there

Seeking advice from designers who code with AI: What techniques do you have for producing AI-coded front-ends that look decent? I struggle with it. Whether I'm specifying a known style, providing a mock, or letting it do its own thing, it messes up on the basics...

Just published: In Design, Craft is Not Enough Liquid Glass exemplifies how the design world's focus on "craft" delegitimizes design as a strategic function, and results in worse product experiences. AI is making it worse...but doesn't have to. blog.dfeldman.co/in-design-cr...

I've got this tongue-in-cheek concept, The Crapularity: a future wherein we revert to pre-industrial life because technology becomes more trouble than it's worth. It started as a joke, but these days I wonder...already I think twice before buying on Amazon because going to the store is less hassle.

Why, if Time Machine is supposed to prune older backups, and I regularly getting "out of space" errors from Time Machine that I can only seem to clear by erasing my backup and starting over?

I had a talk with @schvenk.bsky.social yesterday about the open web and federated / open systems like the Atmosphere or the Fediverse. I think the only backdraw really is that it's hard to do "business" on an open web. Even though I also believe you could still build valuable tools around it.

AI product-design principle #1: Keep the user in the driver’s seat. Which might seem strange: AI is about automating our lives; this pulls in the other direction. First of 6 posts where I explore the product-design principles crystallizing as we build Tiptap Flex (flex.tiptap.dev). dub.sh/pixN9lc

Principles of AI Product Design: Keep the User in the Driver’s Seat

New tech like AI demands that we revisit our product-design principles. The first of six we identified: Keep the use in the driver’s seat.

Tiptap Flex: What do Writers Need from AI?

AI can be a copilot for writers…IF we move beyond chatbots, and recognize AI’s strengths AND weaknesses. We’re doing that with Tiptap Flex.
