Virtual totality? ☀️ Ahead of the 12 August eclipse, KU Leuven researchers are using computer simulations and the latest solar observations from missions such as Solar Orbiter and Proba-3 to predict what the solar corona will look like. 1/2 🔭 🧪

What is a solar eclipse?  The phenomenon happens when the Sun, Moon and Earth are perfectly aligned. ☀️ 🌑 🌍 The Moon blocks light from the Sun and casts a shadow on Earth. The eclipse is visible to anybody within this shadow. That's what will happen on 12 August. 1/3  🔭 🧪 #EuropeanSolarEclipse

Plato meets Maxwell Our terrestrial planet hunter Plato has recently completed a series of key tests inside the Maxwell Test Chamber at ESTEC, demonstrating that its electronic equipment is fit to work in space. 🔭 🧪 1/3

Metallic waves on ancient Mars

The European Space Agency’s Mars Express has spotted a swathe of metallic-looking waves filling Mars’s large Kaiser Crater – an ancient and otherworldly dune field sculpted by wind.
