love when the air is hot soup and smells like wet goose and every news article is like people are dying of extreme heat and the wet bulb temperature is unsurvivable and also the amoc is collapsing very cool very fun
having to google (my name + paper title) to cite something,I should just save these somewhere
this law was absolutely racially motivated, as were the lynchings of Chinese Americans, the burnings of chinatowns and the sundown towns
A White House report has defended the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, pushing back against its characterization by a Smithsonian Institution exhibit that the law was racially motivated. www.forbes.com/sites/stuart...
qualtrics not having a clear guide for js styling and also having functions that vary between Old and New Survey Experience kills me why are you doing this!!!
someone's gotta say it: the field roast veggie hot dogs are really really bad
at least the bugs eating me alive are enjoying themselves during this heatwave
Profoundly sad (and angry) about today's SCOTUS ruling against transgender athletes. The bigotry and racism of several recent rulings are hard to absorb. My heart goes out to transgender people and their families, especially the parents of transgender kids (I know many). I feel your sadness today.
can't wait for the discourse on how this is changing language use (sarcasm)
NEW: Companies are deliberately making their AI tools speak like cavemen in an attempt to stop burning through AI tokens and curb their massive expenditure on AI, 404 Media has found. “Caveman save you token, save you money.”
for pride i wrote about teaching linguistics while queer, and ended up talking a whole bunch about pronouns and also bad textbooks and how great it is to have queer students

every single day is like this and my god it wears on you
>> wake up >> log onto internet >> scream
So what is the best way out of that uncomfortable, untenable space? I think one key step is disaggregating the (non-coherent) set of technologies sold as "AI". If you don't call the stuff you work with "AI", you aren't saddled with trying to defend any of the rest of it. >>
the fact that Vincent's killers were fined $3000 and given probation is devastating. this happened 44 years ago, and in 2025, 49% of aapi adults reported they had experienced racism or hate. Anti Asian racism is one of the foundations of this country, and I encourage y'all to learn AsAm history.
#OtD 19 Jun 1982 Vincent Chin, a Chinese American, was beaten to death at his bachelor party by laid off autoworkers blaming Chin for their unemployment. The murderers weren't even jailed, instead getting 3 years' probation stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9117...
me today working on my paper reviews during a historic weather setup
new goal for the rest of 2026: befriend someone who can get me into the magic castle in hollywood
all jokes aside the right to marry someone who is a different race has only been around for 59 years. I do not take that for granted. Loving day occuring during pride month should serve as a reminder that we have to celebrate and defend the right to marry who we want regardless of race or gender
happy Loving day! if you were weird at all about mixed people this year (including "wasians") please just knock it off for next year!
reminding myself that it is actually okay to need extra time to do things sometimes
I miss when everyone wore masks when they were feeling sick or just because it's common courtesy
