I had to code and pronounce a time of death on a respiratory therapist colleague. There's a memorial plaque for her outside the emergency department to this day. I wrote and re-wrote my will. I will never forgive these ghouls trying to rewrite history and deny our experience.

RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>

in the Québécois version of King of the Hill (“Henri pis sa gang”), Boomhauer is named Papineau and sounds like this

started translating a yiddish play from the twenties where a little girl dreams that she grew up to be 72 years old, and every day of her life she had eaten an entire chicken, and then all 26,280 of those chickens suddenly back to life and were crying and screaming to get out of her belly

If they can send even a single scientist to prison over something that plainly did not happen, they can imprison anyone for anything at any time for any reason. Those are the stakes. You don’t hear that from legacy publications like NYT.

NEW: In 2025 ICE obtained DNA from nearly one million people and funneled it into an FBI criminal database. The collection likely included DNA from young children and was backed by the threat of criminal prosecution. The raw genetic material is stored indefinitely. Free to read:

ICE Collected Nearly 1 Million People’s DNA Last Year—Including Young Children

Internal documents show ICE's DNA collection has skyrocketed in the second Trump administration. Now hundreds of thousands of people never convicted of a crime are in an FBI criminal database forever.

it is actually kinda wild how many commonly used colloquial words in Hungarian are from Hebrew via Yiddish: meló "job" from meloche, balhé "quarrel, conflict" from behole, szajré "loot, contraband" from skhoyre, tré "bad" from treyf, mázli "fluke/dumb luck" from mazl belong to this category

this language has the most random loanwords from Hebrew imaginable thanks to Yiddish contributing a whole lot to vernacular Hungarian back in the day

my neighborhood 7-11 closed a couple years ago and tried to reopen but couldn’t get the permit approved because there’s a preschool next door and 7-11s sell alcohol (the previous permit was grandfathered in). i saw a fence going up around the lot recently and looked up what was moving in: a gun shop

Yes, this is 100% about censorship in general, and the current anti-sexual weirdness that’s going on. But a paragraph near the end of the article is especially telling… ASMR is primarily created by women. Women doing anything will always be perceived by some as inherently sexual (excerpt in comms)

Sam Cole@samleecole.bsky.social · 5d ago

a bunch of popular ASMR artists lost their channels forever this week, after YouTube cited them for violating terms against "sexually gratifying" content: www.404media.co/youtube-asmr...

It’s almost as it never works to tell people to use “critically” or “with caution” a given technology known to fail for particular uses. One might suggest making the company itself responsible for refusing to give directions in certain conditions.

"This is not the first time we've gone and done a Google Maps rescue," Maria Masiar, the search manager of the Lions Bay Search and Rescue, said. "This has happened to almost every search and rescue team in the corridor."
A Google spokeswoman wrote in an email that their app is designed for streets.
"We encourage hikers to use trail maps and apps designed specifically for hiking," the spokeswoman wrote.

Three teenage boys printed directions for a hike on a trail in British Columbia, Canada that Google Maps estimated to be over five hours. In reality, their hike weeks ago lasted at least 12 hours and required the intervention of rescue crews, according to the Lions Bay Search and Rescue team.

For me, LLMs are clearly powerful machines, but everything about their construction and deployment in society by the people constructing them appears oriented around achieving a political project that deeply conflicts with my values or a vision of a future I want to live in and dont have a choice in

NERV IRB Coordinator@professormusgrave.bsky.social · 4d ago

This is what is driving me nuts. So many posters around here keep haw-hawing about R’s in strawberry and clearly have NO idea that these are extremely powerful machines *already* that we have not yet figured out how to utilize fully. If we stopped development today, they’d still be astonishing
