Visited the Victorian classroom at Lancaster Judges’ Lodgings today. As a primary teacher, I found it fascinating seeing the old desks, slates, ink pens and teaching resources. It definitely got me thinking about how much teaching has changed! 👩🏫📚

As the probation year comes to a close for many of my PGDE cohort from @morayhouse.bsky.social, I wanted to leave this message for them. While I may not have completed my probation yet but I’m so proud of my PGDE colleagues. They are awesome!

Spending time chasing my access to work caseworker via video calls when I should be focusing on getting ready for starting my new teaching job next week. This is the reality of being a deaf teacher.

Today’s my hometown’s Gala. Two of my new pupils are part of the retinue this year and I just saw them go past in their carriage. One of them saw me and tapped the other and said “look, it’s Miss Stewart!”, whilst waving frantically at me. My heart melted at that point. 🥹😍

As my final placement ends today I’ve been reflecting on my time on the PGDE course & about what it means to be a Deaf BSL user teacher in mainstream schools.

Does anyone know the sign for Persephone character in the Greek Mythology? I’ve seen some signs for other Gods and Goddeses by Deaf Greeks before but not for Persephone. If anyone could tag someone who’s a Greek sign language user, that would be great! #signlanguage #greekmythology
This week on placement, my P5 class had been learning about David Hockney and his photo joiner collages. So we all did our own joiner collages of spring flowers, mostly tulips. Really pleased to see how their works turned out! #uoepgdep #expressivearts #DavidHockney
Half way through the first week of my final placement. Slowly starting to get to know my new class. But after bumping into the kids from my previous placement class, I found myself really missing my old class. Is that normal to feel that during a placement? #PGDEPrimary #uoepgdep
Finally finished watching #Reunion featuring Matthew Gurney & Rose Ayling-Ellis. I was engrossed in it all the way through. I want more! I was also impressed with Lara Peake who played Gurney’s daughter. Her BSL was good & you wouldn’t know that she had no BSL skills before being cast in this drama.
Just finished watching #reunion by @wlmager.bsky.social and oh my goodness! It’s so good. Love seeing #BSL being used in a mainstream tv drama and the fact it featured Deaf people. I’ve always liked him but Matthew Gurney is AMAZING in this drama. Nice to see a cameo from @thisduffy.bsky.social too.
Enjoyed today’s workshop on using digital pedagogy. Explored using bee-bots and micro-bits, especially the bee bots which was fun. Tried spelling my name out with the bee-bot which went well until I realised that I’d missed out a letter in my name… 🤦♀️ should I be a teacher??! #uoepgdep
Quite enjoyed today’s session on integration of EXA into learning as part of the #STEAM week. I was learning about drama conventions and how they can be utilised in other curriculum areas. I was pretty pleased to be able to channel David Tennant as the Doctor! #uoepgde #whovian
