It's not simply the decline in officer numbers which raises big questions. Cuts to support staff have left officers spending more time on paperwork and less time on the beat. The Justice Secretary needs to come forward with a plan to ensure the needs of the service are met.

Barely a month goes by when there isn’t a new record worst at A&E. The SNP are normalising their broken promises to staff and patients. It is abysmal that these waits are making people think twice about attending A&E, even if they are in severe pain.

The Highlands cannot be an afterthought in this new conversation about power and place. Andy Burnham built his career on the idea that Westminster doesn’t understand life outside it - well, neither does a settlement designed for Manchester work for Mallaig.

When the SNP came to power, waits of more than 12 hours were exceptionally rare. Today, they have become a regular feature of emergency care in Scotland. Long delays leave patients waiting in pain and distress, and risk putting people off seeking help.

The SNP government is rewarding their water company for failure. Scottish Water are paying out enormous bonuses to bosses who are presiding over filthy sewage dumps and hitting customers with bigger bills.

Time and again, Highland communities are told they have to travel further, wait longer or make do with less. It is deeply worrying that cancer patients could now be added to that list.

The Scottish Government and UK Government need to look at having publicly available aircraft that can be called on by the fire service when there is a risk of wildfires, rather than just relying on private operators with the hope that helicopters will be available.

Survival rates for lung cancer aren’t much better than what they were in the 1970s. A national lung cancer screening programme, which is already underway in England, could make a big difference, and that’s why we have been calling for it to be rolled out across Scotland.

We have long campaigned for the SNP government to fairly compensate the islands and coastal towns affected by the ferries fiasco. As it stands, towns like Dunoon and Mallaig don’t see a penny in compensation, despite delayed and cancelled ferries hitting their economies hard.

There are already thousands of unemployed and underemployed primary teachers on short-term contracts for years on end. Yet the Scottish Government continues to train way more primary teachers than needed. It's a waste of public money and unfair on the newly qualified teachers.

Pollution has led to a spate of beach closures in recent weeks. At present, our bathing waters are only monitored for water quality for 3 months of the year. This isn't good enough. We need to give people confidence that our bathing waters are safe to use all year round.

Yet another A&E record broken under the SNP, with the worst May on record. People are waiting at A&E because there are too many beds occupied by patients who can’t get the care package they need to return home. It goes to show you can't fix the NHS without fixing social care.

The SNP have made a pig’s ear of teacher training. They are completely failing to train enough teachers for important secondary school subjects, particularly those in STEM. The government need to address the teacher training crisis as a matter of urgency.

Coastguard Rescue Officers play a vital role in keeping people safe. Removing the modest payment they receive for training and operational duties risks making it harder to recruit and retain volunteers, ultimately weakening a service coastal communities rely on.

In England, when water companies dump sewage more frequently than the rules allow, they get hit with massive fines. In Scotland, it seems there are never any consequences for sewage dumping under the SNP. We want to see a Clean Water Act to take the sewage scandal seriously.

The SNP government has never once met the cancer waiting times target in the 13 years since it was introduced. Getting seen in good time can be lifesaving in cancer cases, so the failure to meet this target is doubly concerning. We urgently need to turn this situation around.

Our schools should be a safe place for pupils and staff alike. The Scottish Government previously produced an action plan on behaviour in schools, but is clear from these increasing figures that it is not working.

Scottish Liberal Democrats stood in the way of the business rates wrecking ball and secured £178m in the budget to help linchpins of the high street like pubs and restaurants. It’s a start, but we absolutely need to go further and reform business rates.

People across Scotland are sick of being let down by an endless merry-go-round of Prime Ministers, while nothing really changes for them. Whoever becomes Prime Minister needs to end the chaos and focus on getting the country back on track.
