Durant els primers censos de juliol 🗓️ de mascarell bru (Sula leucogaster) a l’illa de Brava (Cap Verd) 🏝️, el nostre equip va registrar la presència d’un exemplar adult de mascarell emmascarat (Sula dactylatra), una espècie pantropical extremadament rara ‼️ a l’arxipèlag.
La conservació de les aus marines 🐧 passa, necessàriament, per entendre la seva relació amb pesca🐟. En el cas dels grans vaixells pesquers ⛴️ utilitzem dades del sistema AIS, una eina de seguiment obligatòria, que proporciona informació sobre la posició, el rumb i la velocitat de les embarcacions.
Primeres notícies de Cap Verd! El nostre equip de recerca ja està plenament instal·lat a l'illa de Brava, on hem començat a treballar amb l’ONG #ProjectoVitó , una entitats de conservaciò amb mes de 15 anys d’historia.
Ja s’han instal·lat i recuperat els primers GPS i detectors de radar en baldrigues, tant a Gran Canària com a Montaña Clara!
S’han iniciat les campanyes de treball de camp en colònies d’aus marines de l’estiu 2026. Aquestes practiquen tasques com: l’anellament científic, el seguiment de dispositius i el mostreig biològic amb la finalitat de l’obtenció de dades per a la posterior recerca.

We have had a fruitful session introducing the project REDUCE and actions being implemenmted. Thanks to all those attending the event and for the useful discussion on why #bycatch happens in West Africa waters, how fishers address it and how to advance in best practices and mitigation measures.
Second day of #FOMACO with lots of relevant sessions happening- REDUCE is delivering two Side Events today: SE19-Reducing marine megafauna bycatch: the collaborative approach of the REDUCE project in the East Central Atlantic and SE20-Electronic Monitoring opportunities for West African fisheries.
The first day of the PRCM forum (#FOMACO 2026) has started today and REDUCE has been there, from the Opening ceremony by the Prime Minister of Mauritania, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Diay, until the diferent Side Events and Workshops.
