County Police Rouse Auto Petters From New Parking Headquarters

Fifty Parties Disturbed by Deputies in Early Morning.

Acting on complaints that automobile petters have transferred parking quarters from Fay Road to the highway connecting Court Street and Malloy Road, Deputy Sheriffs Merl W. Holmes and Raymond Dear broke up more than 50 parties in that section between midnight and 2 o'clock this morning.

No arrests were made, but the deputies took the names and addresses of a youth and a girl found in an expensive sedan which was parked in a hayfield, and if the owner of the property will sign a complaint will arrest the pair.

Other parties of petters, found at intervals of 20 to 50 feet all along the road, were compelled to move on, having parked within the lines of the highway in violation of a state law. The few who took the precaution to drive off State property before parking also elected to move, rather than face publicity.

Complaints against the increasing number of cars parked along the road, constituting a menace to traffic, have been reaching the sheriff's office with growing frequency, indicating that the petters driven out of the Fay road area by repeated patrols have established new headquarters. The raids this morning will be followed up, according to an announcement by Sheriff Lewis E. Scriber today, every night until the nuisance is abated.

"Indeed, the combined levels of Powell and Mead are lower than at any point since 1957—that is, before Glen Canyon Dam was even constructed. Powell’s vast 25 million acre-feet of theoretical capacity is totally pointless, like some toddler wearing a XXXL sweater."

We have a serious water crisis in the West and one short-term solution is to eliminate a reservoir that isn't really supplying anyone and loses large amounts to evaporation and seepage each year. Drain Lake Powell, writes @ryanlcooper.com. prospect.org/2026/08/19/d...

Blames American Movies for Fading Respect for White Race
Black and Yellow Races Hold Contempt for Practices Shown in Films.
New York, Aug. 18 (AP).—American motion pictures distributed to corners of the earth inhabited by black and yellow races are tearing down their respect for the white races, W. F. Clarke, English-American film magnate, said today on his arrival aboard the steamship Laconia from England.

American films, spread through the British Colonial possessions, he said, already had served to "so subvert the subject people that they are no longer barbaric and semi-barbaric people respecting the white man, but dark people having only a contempt for all the vices of the white man as set forth blatantly and glibly in American films.

"Films such as now are being turned out by wholesale here and sent to the remote places of the world, are doing the cause of the white race no good," asserted Mr. Clarke. He added that trade no longer follows the flag, but the film.

I'm trying to feel bad for her but on a different days it was a different reporter that he berated and none of them including her spoke up up. None of them stand up to him. They all deserve what they get.

CNN has put out a statement defending its Senior White House Correspondent Kristen Holmes after Trump verbally attacked her in a White House briefing and has continued a vicious attack online with the WH Rapid Response account.

CNN
"Kristen Holmes is one of the most respected and accomplished journalists covering the White House. This afternoon, she did her job and asked the President of the United States a tough, relevant, and newsworthy question on behalf of the American people. Public officials are free to challenge reporting they disagree with, but personal attacks on journalists for asking questions are beneath the office and inconsistent with the principles of a free press. We stand firmly behind Kristen and reject these attacks in the strongest possible terms."

Nervous Mourners Tip Off Dry Agents To ‘Beer Funeral’ Hearse Driver Flees Under Inspection and Liquor Is Found in Casket. - The Rocky Mountain News, August 17, 1926 It was a simpler time.

Nervous Mourners Tip Off Dry Agents To ‘Beer Funeral’
Hearse Driver Flees Under Inspection and Liquor Is Found in Casket.
DETROIT, Mich., Aug. 16.—(By Associated Press.)—The suspiciously inquisitive eye of a highway police lieutenant panicked what purported to be a funeral cortege here today and after the mourners fled wildly from the procession the hearse and other cars were found to be stacked with liquor.

A squad of police was making its way along an outlying road toward Ecorse, a rum running base, when they rounded a curve in sight of the funeral procession. The unusually loud manifestations of grief which came from the cortege attracted the attention of the lieutenant in charge of the squad, he said. Driving to the end of the line, he glanced casually at the hearse driver. As he gazed at the man, the officer said, the driver became nervous, faltered, and then jamming on the brakes, leaped from the machine and fled thru a field. To the astonishment of the officers, the mourners immediately began pouring from the cars in the rear and fled in all directions.

An inspection of the hearse revealed instead of a corpse fifty cases of beer. The other cars were likewise loaded with contraband.

WOMAN BOOTLEG AGAIN ARRESTED
Mrs. Frances Michalsky Claims Liquor Her Only Source of Revenue.
It was a busy day in United States Commissioner Harvey N. Henderson's court today as the commissioner got back into the harness and attacked the pile of Volstead cases accumulated during his two weeks vacation.

Fifteen alleged offenders were lined up before him this morning. All pleaded not guilty and were held under $1,000 bail for hearing later. They included Mrs. Frances Michalsky, 37, of 507 Harrison Street, widowed mother of four young children, who was arrested yesterday for the seventh time as a liquor law violator.

Mrs. Michalsky pleaded not guilty and was released under $1,000 bail. She contends she has to bootleg as it is the only way she can earn a living for her family and still be with them to give them a mother's care. John Martell, Fulton Street, arrested with Mrs. Michalsky, was unable to give bail and was committed to jail pending a hearing later in the week.

The newly confirmed Attorney General of the United States is speaking at a political rally in support of the Republican candidate for New York governor. I’m pretty certain that the previous time in modern DOJ history (say the last hundred years) that something like that has happened is…..NEVER.
