Ullapool Sea Savers

USS is a kids’ marine conservation charity run by kids for kids. People protect what they love: we show people what there is to love about the sea + why it is so important to protect our amazing marine environment.

A couple of Ullapool ladies out for a tour on the boat. As well as taking the USS kids out to learn about our marine life, we try to take out those who don't get the chance normally. Nona and Sionaid are both born & bred here but Sionaid hadn't been out on the loch since the 1970s.

Our species champion sessions allow the kids to explore our library to find a species to help promote & protect & if the compile a fact file to share with others they become that species's ambassador. Thanks to everyone who helps with this & has donated books & support.

Part of what we do is take the sea saver kids out on our boat 'Mada-Chuain' (Gaelic for 'Ocean-Wolf' which was the name for Orca here). As well as surveying and learning boat handling skills, we have 4 research creels - the traps used to catch prawn, crab and lobster.
