It can be simultaneously true that pretty much all voting machines have theoretically exploitable vulnerabilties of varying degrees of severity, and also that a cyberattack undetectably altering the outcome of a statewide election is a wildly unrealistic scenario.
There is an unfortunate tendencyโsometimes unwitting, sometimes bad faithโto confuse software vulnerabilities with system vulnerabilities. And relatedly, to misunderstand what a realistic threat model for a known vulnerability looks like.
