It is never too late to be what you might have been - George Eliot Current WIP: Book Three
States with the lowest literacy rates shouldn’t be banning books, they should be reading them
I have! My first books are a duology. The sequel is going to have to under go MASSIVE rewrites because so much has changed in the first book. I'm looking forward to tackling it when the time comes. There were no parts I disliked. I enjoyed it being intertwined with book one. #WritingPrompt
Have you written a sequel before? If you haven't, what's stopped you? If you have, what were your most and least favorite parts about doing it? #WritingPrompt
Get it! It's so good!
It's my birthday this week! To celebrate, the eBook of THE DEVOURING is on sale for $0.99 between August 3-9. If you've been thinking of buying it but haven't had a chance yet, now's the perfect time! 💙📚 Links to buy are on my website: amshilling.com/books/the-devouring/
I got my eyes dialted today. It's so bright it looks like the Messiah has returned. I'm thankful for sunglasses.
I used the 3 act structure again, and I gotta admit I much prefer the plotting method of the nosy, old woman who whisperes gossip in my ear. She whispered in my ear for book 3, and she could have done so for this new book.
The ideas are flowing! Plotting is going much better this time.
So, I don't want to write anything I've already had an idea for. Instead, today, I'm going to plot an idea I got like last week. Why? Iono. It just feels like the way to go.
I woke up extra early to see my kids off for their first day of school. I'm tired.
I've discovered Milanote. I really like it so far, and I'm having fun playing around with it to plan a novel.
I have a long neglected google sheets tracker someone on YT made. It's really great, and I need to get back to it. It was so nice seeing the graphs it made. #PretendPanel
I'm back, #pretendpanel ! And thanks to @lizzieblackwood.bsky.social I've got another month of questions 💜 so let's go... August 1st: Do you use data visualization to track your writing progress? What does that look like for you? #WritingCommunity #Writers #Authors #WritingPrompts
My heart has not been in writing. I tried pushing past it, but it's not working. The more I try the less I want to. Maybe it's what I'm working on? I could probably brainstorm one of the other ideas I have. Or do I need to just take a break and come back when my heart is in the right place?
So, I just heard one of the best lines in a book that I've heard in a long time. I am the coin not one of it's faces. That's gonna bounce around my head for a while.

Stories have always given me an escape. I love getting lost in a good book and having everything fall away for the time I'm reading. As the saying goes: I have lived a thousand lives in the pages of books. I want nothing less than the same for people reading my stories. #SummerOfStories

Ryan's best friends are Adam and Olivia. They met when they were 8/9 years old. A boy pushed pushed Ryan to the ground, Olivia punched the boy in the nose, and Adam further held her back. They've been best friends ever since. #WritingQ #WritingPrompts #WritingCommunity
Thursday #WritingQ Best Friends! Tell me how your character met and first connected with their best friend! What do they have in common? What do they like about each other? #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompt
I so want to work on Hook, but the teeth aren't ready to be pulled! It's such a good idea, but it's so hard to get out! Also, I had a slight heart attack when I couldn't get the newest version to load on Scrivener. I forgot I changed the name. 🙃
Yes! Ryan and Nana Lily. Lilith is her grandmother's best friend. She was there for Ryan after the death of her mother. Sadly, Ryan's grandmother said some things and Lilith stepped away. Now Nana Lily is back because someone attacked Ryan's grandmother. #AwesomeCharacters
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters Let's talk about reunions! Do your characters get any specific moments where they reunite with someone from their past? Or someone they lost touch with earlier in the story? Is it a happy reunion or less so? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
The best line I've ever written is: But gods cannot teach what it means to be human, so he was arrogant, haughty, and cruel. I love it so much! It's just a good line. Sadly, because I pivioted for that particular story, it no longer applies. Still my favorite though. #SummerOfStories

I'm looking into new laptops just in case. I can't have another mini heart attack because my laptop doesn't turn on.
I hate being in the basement because it's so cold. Sadly, I'm always in the basement because that's where my office is. I'm currently wrapped in a blanket.
All the hard cover books are together. Paper backs are together. All the dulologys/trilogies/etc are together. The YA books are to themselves. Stephen King has 3 shelves to himself. I've started a Brandon Sanderson shelf. Non-fiction boks are broken down into cookboks etc.
Enough of the horrors and doom scrolling. Let's talk about something fun. How do you arrange your books?
In A Demon & The Divine Colby goes from being a love interest for the best friend to a love interest for the MC Ryan. She was supposed to be with someone completely different, but as I was writing Colby stepped in. #WritingPrompt
What's something from your book/wip that you didn't plan for but enjoyed anyway? A surprise scene? A character that just ended up working? etc. #WritingPrompt
I've written three pages today, and I'm at a good stopping point. I just don't want to write today. My hearts not into it. I don't want to force something and end up scrapping a lot.
Around 12 something this morning I finished Rivers of London. I'm also reading It and listening to The Hollow by Agatha Christie. Next on my TBR is a romance. The only one I own A Love Song for Ricki Wilde. I spun a wheel to determine what was next and that was it. #SummerOfStories
