The authors claim that both brain output and input devices are BCIs. To me, BCI Society's definition of BCIs as primarily output devices seems more logical. Brain stimulators and sensory protheses (computer-to-brain interfaces) are different from output BCIs even from the application point of view.

Just did a calculation of our lab's time from project conception to publication (e-pub) over the past x years. We're averaging 3.5 years from the first idea to acceptance. About 6-9 months of this is review time. Don't know how typical this is but good reality check esp. for trainees.

Popularity of the motor imagery based BCIs (MI BCIs) is skyrocketing, while other noninvasive BCIs are now attracting far less attention. Surprisingly, interest to attempted movements (AM) remains low, while they have been repeatedly shown to be a serious alternative or at least a supplement to MI.
