It feels cosmically unfair to be part of a best books award, with only one winner. Books are too hard to conceive and research and organize and write and revise to judge that way. It’s so cool to join fellow authors as finalists for the inaugural Dan Jenkins Medal for books.

If this is it for Russell Wilson, he should be congratulated on an outstanding career. From 2017-2020, he threw 140 touchdowns against 36 picks. He was also tough as hell. Not many third-round picks start every game for the first nine years of their career.

Wickersham is a five-time finalist for the Jenkins Medal for Excellence in Sportswriting (2x with a co-author), the most for any sportswriter. In 2018, he was a finalist for the National Magazine Award for Reporting. He's been on a team, winning the NMA for General Excellence 3x.
