sfpcnik "San Francisco Peace-nik" I believe giving is more sustainable and enriching than taking. My joy comes from community, animals, music, stories, green walks, travel and my DH.

Maybe Democrats should run on a living wage policy and address the gig economy inequity. Flexibility without true self-employed control - the taxes, fees and maintenance that eat up much of their income. How is a low wage janitor a contractor? I see this as a Tax-Aide voluntee.

The number of Amazon workers on Medicaid and food stamps nearly TRIPLED since 2020. Uber, DoorDash, and Instacart drivers now top the food stamp list. In other words: your taxes are covering what billionaires won't pay in living wages. This is disgusting and inhumane.

Today I made an unannounced visit to ICE’s facility in Scarborough, Maine. What I heard was unacceptable: no body cameras, no training, and no accountability. Johan Guerrero should be alive. Congress must act. Abolish ICE. End qualified immunity.

Emerson came to RAPS Cat Sanctuary from up north in Canada. Barely a year old found alone, freezing, and as it turned out, blind. He was too terrified to let any person near him. At most shelters, a feral cat who can't be touched and can't see doesn't get a happy ending. TT: Cat Daddy Dan

In regards to a higher minimum wage or living wage. Is it possible to legislate that executive compensation not be more than 50 times that of the *lowest* paid worker, whether W-2 or contractor? Or tie increases in wages to the same percentage increase as either the exec comp or inflation?

The constitution made it difficult to corrupt elections by having them administered locally. The senile old man's rant is an attempt to retain power by nationalizing the election. Why else has he dismantled agencies which were designed to improve the safety and security of voting?

Today's #MustRead by @thomhartmann.skystack.xyz via @dailykos.com What Trump told us last night is that he's willing to do ANYTHING to hold onto power. He could, he will, because he’s already tried it once. www.dailykos.com/stories/2026...

Which is why the useful work right now isn’t reactive, and it isn’t something we do in November. It’s finding out, before November, what the people around us are going to do.

— Go meet your county election officials; they’re mostly your neighbors, and in a lot of counties they’re the ones who’ll be standing between a federal agent sent by Trump and a ballot box with nobody backing them up.

— Ask your sheriff, on the record, at a public meeting, whether he takes orders from Washington or from the county.

— Ask your state legislators what the plan is if the National Guard shows up, because most of them probably haven’t thought about it and they damn well should. Ask your governor and state attorney general.

— Find out which lawyers in your town do election work and whether they’re organized. Get to know the people on your block well enough that you can call them at midnight, if necessary.

— Get to know your local elected officials and, in the few months ahead, show up at your local Democratic Party meeting.

People who’ve already decided what they’ll do, and who know that the folks around them decided the same thing, behave completely differently when the moment arrives than people who are trying to figure it out on the spot.

That’s not optimism. It’s just how it’s always worked, in Selma and Kiev and Manila and everywhere else people have looked at an illegal order or an out-of-control authority figure and said, “No.”

What matters most in the next four months is going to happen at the local level, in county commission meetings and election offices that nobody’s watching.

Go be somebody who’s watching.

Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and tell your senators and rep to keep the SAVE act out of the national security spending bill. Don’t forget to mention Todd "I'm his lawyer" Blanche to your senators. Check your voter registration often at vote.org hartmannreport.com/p/midterm-el...

Midterm Elections: The Con Always Works, Right Up Until the Moment it Doesn’t

Democracy has survived con men before, but only because ordinary Americans refused to become the mark…

“Federal immigration agents have fatally shot 10 people in Trump's second term. 10 human beings. 10 people with families, friends, hopes, and dreams. 10 people who should still be alive today. Everyone carrying out Trump's deadly agenda must answer for their crimes.” ~ Robert Reich

I’m sick and tired of the status quo in this country that puts corporate greed & billionaire profits over working people. In a country with a trillionaire, it’s a moral outrage that children go hungry, seniors can’t afford their medicine, and veterans sleep on the street.
