This bird at North Cave Wetlands is being described as hybrid. Any thoughts welcome. Can Ruddy Shelducks at any age ever look like this? If it is a hybrid, any thoughts on parents? Thanks.

We don’t get loads of waders passing through at North Cave Wetlands but we do get some nice ones, like this lovely Little Stint today.

Delighted to see this Red-necked Phalarope at NCW today. The fourth site record.

I haven’t seen many Brent Geese at NCW, the ones I have seen have all been dark-bellied. So it was great to hear about then connect with this pale-bellied bird today.

A few inland sites had Sanderlings today - so I was pleased that one dropped into North Cave Wetlands.

Woodlarks - I was delighted to see the two at North Cave Wetlands today. The second and third recorded at the site.

Nice to have some wader passage at North Cave Wetlands today. Greenshank and Sanderling shown. There were also 11 Ruff, Wood Sandpiper, Ringed Plover and Dunlin.

Late compared to some but I was pleased to see my first Yellow Wagtails of the year at North Cave Wetlands. The White Wagtail shown was unusual looking to me.

After hearing so many over the garden last night, it wasn’t a huge surprise to see a Common Scoter today at North Cave Wetlands, East Yorkshire.

I was pleased to see the first Mediterranean Gull of the year at North Cave Wetlands today.

After a few sightings of small numbers of White-fronted Geese, it was good to really get in on the invasion today with 5 over then 116 down on North Cave Wetlands today. Any info on ringed bird appreciated

Any views on this Shelduck hybrid appreciated. Seen at North Cave Wetlands 7/2/26. Only noticed later that both it and the Common Shelduck were ringed.

Smew, these 4 birds, 2 drakes, and 2 red-heads, constitutes the largest flock ever recorded at North Cave Wetlands. It is almost 30 years since the last and only previous male was recorded on the reserve when it was present with 2 red-heads from 18/2/1996 to 25/2/1996 @northcavewet.bsky.social

Two drake Smew at Tophill Low Nature 22/1/26 - one looks pristine, the other showing darker flanks.
