I post my mini painting, WIPs, older projects, etc. US painter, mostly into DnD, RuneQuest, Pathfinder & other RPGs. Returning to painting after a hobby hibernation of ~25 years. I support full inclusion. He/him

The underpainting experiment was successful, & the transparent paint was a bit streaky, so I decided to use oils to refine. Though it’s a bit shiny (still wet), I’m happy with the result. Neat stuff! @reaperminiatures.bsky.social #orc #nerdlings #jadefireleader #shaman #priestess #minipainting #wip

A largely painted miniature of an orc priestess or shaman, holding a spear in one hand and skull in the other. She has green ork skin and is wearing a purple bikini and cloak. Painted with oils. Front view.

Painted @reaperminiatures.bsky.social #jadefireleader. Paint job of 90 minutes, played with underpainting, then transparent paint on top. Clearly refinements needed, and I’m quite happy with 90 minutes of work. Paint info in alt text. #reaper #orc #priestess #shaman #nerdlings #minipainting #wip

A painted miniature of a green skinned orc shaman or priestess, who is holding a spear in one hand and a skull in the other. She is wearing a purple bikini and cloak. The spear, skull, and adornments are unpainted. Front view. Paints used are Liquitex soft body acrylic quinacridone blue violet (transparent) and Phthalo green blue shade (transparent).

Teaching a friend how to paint minis. The black and white sketch took me nearly no time, less than an hour. The interesting bit: the upper half of the kimono is diluted paint. The sash and bottom half is transparent paint. Guess which I’ll use more for these kinds of paint jobs? Paint in alt text.

The back view of a filament print of a humanoid frog dressed as a samurai. He is wearing a kimono, sash, and two scabbards are visible on his left side. The top half is painted with Golden SoFlat paints (dioxazine violet deep and I think quinacridone red) that have been diluted to allow the black and white underpainting to provide the highlights and shading. The bottom half was painted with Liquitex transparent soft body acrylic paints, quinacrdione red and dioxazine purple.

The underpainting is more visible for the lower half and the colors are more saturated. The conclusion is that even diluted non-transparent paints will blow out the underpainting to some degree while the transparent paints will show more of it.

One could easily use non-transparent paints to provide highlights and specular lights if desired. (And I will!) The front view of a filament print of a humanoid frog dressed as a samurai. The bottom half and skin all remain black and white, which are Golden SoFlat black and white. The sash is painted with transparent paint.

Took a fabulous class on skin and #NMM with Mikhal Pisarski. We all ran out of time to paint the leather, hair, eyes, and some details. I didn’t deeply understand until about 75% of the way through and tried to refine/adjust but ran out of time. I will repaint this bust to cement what I learned.

A largely painted miniature bust of a Caucasian woman wearing armor. There are reflections visible on the armor and it has a bluish hue.
