Quite enjoying @fryrsquared.bsky.social pensively playing with an abacus. You know, like mathematicians do.

Every single tech bro take is partly facile and partly wrong, but presented as deep insight. These people are so, so, thick.
the tech industry is about to invent books
No, your Magic 8 Ball is not conscious, and it does not have feelings. Also, the burden of proof in this debate is not on me.
No idea what people mean when they say books used to use more obscure language.
“War is concrete cicatrix.”
War is target fixation. War is concrete cicatrix. War is an unbanishable ghost. Hookland knows this. It pillboxes remain manifestations of invasion fears. The abandoned sound mirrors of its salt marshes still listen out for phantom planes. There is no psychic peace. – #DAKilory
America, please learn to make a snack that isn‘t entirely too sweet. These are tasty, but after one my teeth itch.

This is a great book, and you should definitely snag the first edition if you're at all interested in design and haven't read it.
You might enjoy the first edition of Conversational Design, which is a free download while I figure out how to address all the current fuckery in the 2nd ed. It's about designing things for humans, and why not to shove every interaction through a literal chat. www.mulebooks.com/conversation...
Only learned about this story recently via @secondcaptains.bsky.social Great example of people with huge moral courage creating a movement.
One from the archives In 1984 Dunnes shop worker Mary Manning refused to handle South African goods & was backed by her shop steward, Karen Gearon. Both were suspended. 9 colleagues came out in support. The strike lasted 3yrs & forced the Irish govt to ban the import of all SA goods. All heroes
Today I avoided a taco stall because they had a shit AI menu. Perhaps their tacos were lovely? I’ll never know. Please don’t do this, taco people.
Hard to do anything other than applaud this:
the extent to which online infrastructure is simultaneously 100% funded by taxpayer money and yet is 100% owned by private companies is an all-time world-historic civilization-defining lead-in-the-pipes level failure of every single apparatus of social engineering ever conceived by man.
I’d forgotten until today that Wu Tang Clan had a song called “For Heavens Sake”. Presumably on an album with “Typical”, “Well, Really!“ and “I’ll Just Do It Myself Shall I?”
Been listening to the new Green Lung record this afternoon, and I am in a MUCH better mood as a result.

This is great, and captures exactly why 7-70Up is so moving, enthralling, and occasionally enraging.

“Have you hyphenated that copy?” “Sure did, boss, real smutty just like you wanted.” “What?”
Can’t believe Sable is 5! I remember excitedly watching this evolve from early teaser videos to absolutely falling in love with it on release. Maybe time for another play through?
It’s Sable’s 5th Anniversary! I’ve written some reflections on what the game means to me, and to celebrate I’m delighted to announce that @lostincult.co.uk are reprinting the Sable Design Works Find out more here: www.eteogames.com/sable-turns-...
”Did you get that photo for the cover of our flute book?” “Sure did, boss, real fucking creepy just like you asked.” “What?” … “WHAT?”
I knew Lichtenstein was a fraud, but I'm genuinely a little shocked how much worse his copy is. What a hack. Also, kudos to the original art by Tony Abruzzo, which is FAR better than it has any right to be.
I'd never seen this Roy Lichtenstein painting before, but it's incredible how he manages unfailingly to make his copies worse than the original comics he's ripping off.
NASA picture of the day today is a real 🏴beauty! This is a composite image of the ~5000yo Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis. The amazing Giuseppe Petricca has only gone and photographed the Sun at noon there, every few days, for a whole year. #Dedication 🔭🧪👌 ℹ️: science.nasa.gov/image-articl...
