Hey, folks. There's a @gofundme.com set up for artist Andy Fish, who is going through a very tough fight with two forms of cancer. He and his wife, cartoonist Veronica Fish (my Blackwood series cohorts) could use some help during this very tough time. I'm donating, hope you can. tinyurl.com/4wa86a6c

If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"

Maybe the funniest part of the arena shakedown is seeing investment groups claim loss of "foot traffic" for "small businesses" in the area. Like, what in the fuck are you even talking about? The place is bound by a freeway on one side, an abandoned river silo on the other, and jack shit between.

I find it just astounding that there are musicians publicly bragging about new albums they made with AI. David Rovics has “made” two albums with AI in the last two months and seems quite proud of them. This might be some cultural trend that totally misses me. This seems as embarrassing as could be.

AI is often presented as inevitable. Yet the infrastructure behind it still depends on local planning, water supplies, electricity grids and politics. Those decisions remain contestable. Zeewolde, Cerrillos, New Brunswick — were all stopped by regular people who found out in time, and showed up.

The Fight Against AI Data Centers Is Spreading Globally

One of the clearest victories happened in a Dutch town that few people outside the Netherlands had heard of before 2021.

This is another example of why the idea we can fight Trump “in the courts” is a total fraud: he has effectively neutered any legal avenue. Let’s stop pretending we have any options other than force of numbers large enough that no court can stop us www.nytimes.com/2026/08/02/u...

Trump, Paul Weiss and the Capitulation of Big Law: 5 Takeaways

The law firm Paul Weiss led the legal resistance against President Trump. Then it led a sudden retreat across the legal industry. A Times investigation examined how it caved to White House pressure.

Great to see my conversation with @michaelehayden.bsky.social finally up! His book, Strange People on the Hill, is one of the best this year and written by one of the most brilliant reporters covering the far-right of the last decade. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

I spoke to @shaneburley.bsky.social about my book Strange People on the Hill for truthout and we got into an important question -- what happened to the hate groups? When the government is a hate group with fascist ambitions, you don't need them as much. My answer: truthout.org/articles/whe...

Minneapolis record store owner Rosa Garcia, aka DJ Madre Rosa, is the founder of DJ-U, a free program for young DJs started in 2018. Despite DJ-U loosing funding this year, Garcia's held several fundraisers for stores like hers that were financially impacted by ICE's deadly Operation Metro Surge.

NEW: I wrote for MSNBC about how Madison Square Garden turning off their facial recognition cameras for Taylor Swift is a perfect encapsulation of our dystopian present: where the wealthy can use surveillance to consolidate power, and the rest of us live in a privately owned panopticon.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got to buy MSG's privacy. Her fans aren't so lucky.

Reports that Madison Square Garden temporarily shut off its facial recognition system for Swift’s wedding expose a glaring problem with how the elite wield and control mass surveillance.

Thus Tisha B’Av is my birthday and was hard to create the solemn fast day I usually do. So I’m mixing it up a bit and taking through the weekend with it. So I’m breaking some of the rules to reach a greater Mitzvot. W/ that in mind read the Halachic Left’s T. Av reader: www.halachicleft.org/torah

The “Save America Act” says that all states “shall” submit their voter registration lists to the DHS’s “SAVE” voter purge program, which has error rates as high as 14% & relies on data from SSA whose databases were mishandled by DOGE. I include this & other parts of the Act in my 8-point summary. 1/
