Getting an email from a stranger who says something nice about a blog post I wrote is just about the biggest dopamine burst I could have on the Internet. I learned so much from technical blogs when I was early in my career (still do) and it makes me so happy to feel I have paid it forward a little.

Had to laugh while watching the #Adepticon 40k stream and they drummed up the big reveal for the new models only to show a Space Marine that I genuinely could not tell if it was new or not. Is the stance maybe 5 degrees wider? Or maybe it's new because it's red instead of blue?

Just finished reading Neuromancer and was surprised at how 'meh' the book left me. It didn't seem good or bad. I can see the cyberpunk ambiance it created, but the story itself told in that setting was pretty mediocre along with the characters.

Taking some steps into the #3DS hacking scene and my first frustration is the virtual console injector being Windows only! I booted a VM and decompiled NSUI with ILSpy and what do you know, it bundles a bunch of other open source tools inside it which is why the browser alerts for viruses.

This isn't mine, and I can't definitively find the original source. But I love this little bit of wisdom: "If you're a fifteen-minute walk from a coffee shop, but the server there has to drive an hour to get to work, you don't live in a walkable city. You live in a theme park."

For all the fearmongering about capital flight from New York City, there’s an exodus few want to talk about: working people.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.
That’s what we have to change.

What's going on in MPLS makes clear that pretty much all of US immigration and anti-terrorism policy needs to be rolled back, and DHS needs to be deconstructed starting with ICE. Everyone in the organization needs to be investigated and face charges, with no exceptions for "just following orders."

Recently saw using LLMs for development compared to eating meat and, in an attempt to shutdown discussion, shaming LLM use being likened to a vegetarian shaming meat eaters. I have a better analogy: using #LLM #AI agents for software dev is like smoking in public. 1/🧵

As I never tire of reminding people, the two plausible alternatives to automated traffic enforcement are that we either rely on the discretion of individual police officers or we simply don't enforce traffic laws at all. We have been trying both alternatives now and they are failing us.

See also: debates about speed cameras. There's a problematic reflex among some progressive reformers to move from "conventional criminal legal responses are bad" to something too close to "accountability in general is bad." I think (as Jamelle argues here) it's rooted in not thinking abt victims.

It's that time of year in #Denver where everyone forgets to shovel their sidewalk. If only we could just make this another function of the city to maintain its infrastructure like we do our roads.

Been dipping my toe into writing initial startup code for an nRF51 and wow is this header file barebones. You get register structs and macros for casting from the base address, but no fields or masking. STMicro sure has spoiled me! I ended up writing my own vector table struct even 😬
