A reminder to everyone: while this year's number of shark incidents seems high, it's actually nowhere near the maximum NSW has had historically. In fact, for the last 5 years, shark bite rates have been similar to what they were 20 years ago.

One of the best project I have ever seen. I love this battle between the smart Oz cockatoos 🦜 and human 🚶‍♂️about bins 🚮! It seems that this arm race is unlimited and will give scientists work for a long time 😄 It also give me great souvenirs of my year spent in Sydney!

By combining observational and controlled assay data, we documented the knowledge of individual birds: who knows how to open bins, and who can defeat commonly found bin protections. Surprisingly, we found several birds able to defeat high-efficacy protections, such as locks,as seen in the vid above.
