Real engineering judgment: If a regex solves it, use a regex. If a SQL query solves it, use a SQL query. If a deterministic function solves it, write the function. Reaching for an LLM when you don't need one is how you get slow, expensive, unreliable software. Use the right tool.

Reflecting on the year, I realized it's hard for me to share opinions. I know enough to know I don't have all the perspectives, and I don't really want to engage with folks who are 100% confident in their own perspectives. It makes it hard to talk about ideas when only one side is willing to learn.
Hey all! I'm working on a project about how enthusiasm plays into success as a creator and business owner. I'd love to collect some more data and experiences related to how different creators experience enthusiasm, or the lack of it. I'd love to hear your experience with any of the following:
At @notion.com Make 2025. Looking forward to the new AI agents they announced, with a few ideas on how to use on my business.
Are you an established content creator? I am working on something new to help purpose-driven content creators progress quicker, by the end of the year. This is purely research for me, so nothing to sell. Anyone interested in a quick discussion?
Man, had a tough new client call this week. No matter what I said, we weren’t making progress. What do you do in that situation? Acknowledge the situation. Nothing I said or did was going to help because we were not a fit. And that’s ok. So I recommended another coach that might better connect
Nothing like a week that starts out with all your meetings being cancelled. Which is strange, because usually it’s not EVERY meeting in one day. Let alone two days in a row. Will it continue today?
I’ve been thinking about what’s the top thing that’s helped me as an accidental #creator. I’m a coach first, and content is a way to get attention for my business. But I’ve been pretty terrible as a creator. Why? Because I never fully accepted I was a creator. Owning the role has been key.
What are the big issues you face as a small creator? I’m struggling with getting my content in front of folks. #creators #smallcreator
I don't always post on #bluesky. But when I do.... I struggle to figure out what to share. I think the previous versions of social media have conditioned me to not trust anything said online, or that you'll get rage-baited into arguing with a bot.
It's a beautiful thing when a creator choses to follow their art. One of the folks I follow announced the evolution of their brand today, and said the magic words "I was writing about it and am feeling excited for my work again." Life's too short to work on things that dim your creativity!
I used to think burnout just meant being tired. But for me, it looked like dread. Like building content for algorithms instead of purpose. Like losing joy in the work I once loved. This week I break down how creators slide into burnout, and how to escape it. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/c...

Isn’t congress supposed to control tariffs and commerce? With enough pressure and political will, couldn’t we stop the Trump tariffs? You know, show the world everyone in the US are not crazy, just temporarily lead by madmen.

Earlier this week I was in a conversation about the difference between success and vision. Thinking about it more, it seems to me that “purpose” is another related idea to success and vision. If success is a measurement (I achieve this), and vision is an ideal imagined future…
Most creators don't know what makes them miserable. We feel resistance and self-doubt in our work. Why? Maybe we choose unfulfilling topics, or maybe we choose to work with clients that don't "vibe" with us.
This was true for me with WFH before covid, 100%! Most of my work was me and a computer screen, so going into the office didn't really matter. RTO mandates are more about companies not trusting the people they hired.
Remote work doesn't thwart productivity. It boosts focus. Government workers are 12% more productive when randomly assigned to work from home. They're more efficient where it's quiet. Most people aren't shirking from home. They're escaping distractions and long commutes.
Creators often fall into the “I need to pivot” trap in their businesses, when they really need to stick to their one thing. We feel insecure about what we are doing, and think we need to play in a new space, or in every space.
Most creators focus on the wrong metrics when building their business. They chase followers and content volume, missing what actually drives sustainable success.
Most creators don’t think about how they use their time when building their creative business. That’s why I admire how @jay.blog navigates life as a creator and a new dad. Recently, he shared how costly it’s been *not* to be 100% dialed in when it’s time to work.

Democrats have one simple message to deliver: Republicans are responsible for everything that happens from now on. All the unintended consequences, government shutdowns and colossal failures are 10…

Two new podcast episodes out this week! One about writing a book with a full time career as a doctor (Dr. Luissa K is my guest). The big idea is the process is messy, long, and needs to fit your life and style. The other is about how creators that crush network, with the big idea being...
It's tough to create and be angry at the same time. I spent part of today paying attention to the news, and part of the day trying to focus and channel into good things in my business.
The #1 myth about creating with a full-time job... You think the reason you’re not creating is because you don’t have enough time. But that’s NOT the real problem. Here’s the truth: If more time was the solution, every full-time creator would be *crushing* it.
It sounds great to be your own boss until you realize you're way too nice to yourself 😅 For my business, I would treat deadlines like the pirate code, mere suggestions, that could be pushed infinitely. Why? Because I was flexible with my commitments to myself.
Trumps original sin this time around is the unconstitutionality of DOGE, right? No law gives DOGE authority, or federal resources. It’s blatant destruction of congressionally establish organizations and spending. Pretending to have congressional power of the purse, etc. Am I missing something?
Ever feel like you have SO many content ideas but none of them actually get made? It’s not that you’re lazy. It’s not that you’re not creative. It’s that you have no urgency.
