One day shy of them being up for a year, someone stole the ICIRR and SALUTE yard signs from my yard, and now I'm motivated to not just replace them but to do so in the most obnoxious way possible. Thankfully I can get more from my state rep's office.

We had a stunning sunset this evening. Everything was awash in a pinkish red light.
On this World Mental Health Day, I feel like the only (temporary) cure for all the stress I'm feeling at the moment is buying my dogs hoodies.
It really couldn't be any clearer as a test of one's morals. The unhoused are people, period. The shame, guilt, and/or disgust felt by housed people from just being in their vicinity results in a lot of active and passive hostility and cruelty that lights the way for worse.
Also: the cruelty inflicted on the unhoused is a barometer of the state violence we're willing to tolerate.
The anniversary cake, because I'm an Oreo fiend who had a cookies n cream wedding cake (not quite like this one).
What better says "Happy 5th anniversary!" than watching The Zone of Interest? Thanks to the person who doesn't realize they recommended it to me.
Kat partnering with CPL for Banned Books Week (Freedom to Read Week is the better name) when?
Being read to and encouraged to read was one of the greatest gifts my parents ever gave me. My parents never put any barriers on their own library, bought us book lights so we could read in the car, and pretended they didn’t notice when I’d be up past bedtime reading under the sheets.
Here's a picture of one of my dog's toes as an apology for unintentionally cursing the White Sox. If I pay teams any attention, they start to lose, and I asked Zeek if he was a White Sox fan given the foot situation. That was apparently enough attention to start the losses. Sorry!
"What are we, a bunch of BROWN people?" This is white people doing white people shit. Y'all had picnics under our hanging bodies but sure ok. It's like the Taliban.
Now THIS is how you write a story. Devastating.
My husband has been an active part of my life for 18 years. As a friend for 3, a boyfriend for 10, and a husband for 5. We got married on the most perfect October Chicago day, right on the Lake, with the city behind us. (He is not on social media, smart man, so his face is blocked out of respect.)
Is it too much to ask that people be safe while doing their job (and at all other times)? My heart goes out to the family of the CTA worker, Julian Mobley, who was killed this afternoon. Reports had said a train conductor was maced just prior. If true, I hope they're okay, physically and mentally.

I say all of this as someone who had ALA water down, or outright change, my words in a statement about police murdering George Floyd when I was president of a Round Table. Like, I'm sorry the facts of the matter are too hard to face, so you call it political so you can dismiss it.
I'm grateful Carolyn shared. I want to add my two cents, as I also got political at an ILA event (albeit from a very different position). In the moments leading up to a panel at Annual I was sitting on with two fierce women, in which we called out the profession for still failing to address its

#CZF2026 is on Saturday, and we'll be there with our masks on! There'll be free KN95 masks available at the entrance (find us on the 9th floor of the Harold Washington Library Center). We'll also have a few air purifiers running. Thanks for helping keep the fest illness-free!
The more organized groups try to get around that by splitting the work and sharing. At one library I worked at, we received 3 identical reconsideration forms with the same page numbers and supposed offensive passages/panels, verbatim. Limiting these challenges to cardholders can help a little.
I learned that a lot of people challenging and banning books don't actually read them, so libraries have implemented book reports on the book challenges to prove that people have read them. Cite the page number, etc. #BannedBooksWeek
Have I responded to this before? A benefit of this for me, a library worker, is that I'm not limited to one employer (CPL) if we're not a work culture match with all the independently run libraries in the suburbs. That means I don't have to pivot to a different type of library (school, academic)
i am once again saying illinois has way too many municipalities
Yes. Anything that is not mindless or mostly mindless means I probably can't do it on my phone absent a threat to life. I've actually tried thinking through what becomes too much vs what is okay. Haven't landed on a real set of parameters, just instinctively know what I can and can't do.
Oh no! I'm genuinely so embarrassed to admit I never thought to look for CPL here (learning I shouldn't assume the cool kids aren't here) and I've been missing out.
This Banned Books Week, we reaffirm CPL's key role as a Book Sanctuary and protect the right to read. According to @ALALibrary, nearly half of book challenges represent the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people and people of color. CPL is here to protect those stories.
Well, well, well. If it isn't me being stubborn and figuring it out. Well played, WeVideo, but I'm still the victor.
My reach is probably too small for this question but let's try anyway! Does anyone know of a free video editor that doesn't watermark and, most importantly, allows video speed editing on more than one range of a clip? Even with splitting video and placing on different tracks in WeVideo,
Hey Chicago friends... this is probably a longshot but I have a friend who found a cat that had just given birth to kittens and he's been able to find homes for the kittens but he's looking for somebody to adopt the mom who is fairly aggressive. If you'd be willing to take on a project hit me up.

My husband is packing my lunch for work while I enjoy my breakfast. How spoiled am I?
✅ Annual COVID shot ✅ Annual flu shot Let's see how I feel later. 😅
Perfect porch/stoop sitting weather this morning. Absolutely gorgeous.
Do you know what would create a more amiable airport environment for me? Not having to figure out all the ways and places where I can and should opt out of security theater and excessive surveillance.
TSA says it is removing chairs at document checks in airports, requiring staff to stand for their shift. TSA explained the reason as twofold: to ensure its employees meet its fitness standards and to create an amiable environment for travelers.
Mid-February is the earliest I could get an appointment for a mammogram. That is just so mind-boggling to me. Getting these actually once a year means I need to be asking for my referral about 6 months post-appointment.
