Big milestone met for Environment Canada today as it launches its long-awaited storm-based thunderstorm and tornado warning system. It's mostly going to affect warnings received via cell phone, but it should substantially reduce the number of warnings for people not in the direct path of the storm.

Courtesy of The Weather Network. The orange polygons are for a severe thunderstorm warning while the red polygons are for a tornado warning. A hypothetical tornadic supercell thunderstorm is superimposed, with tornado near the 'hook' area on the lower left side.

So let's dissect the Minister's response regarding the disbanding of the Environment Canada's radar science team. 🧵1/n Is radar science an "essential scientific function"? Radar is the #1 tool for severe storm warnings and our new radars have serious problems with data quality needing to be fixed.

I have now received a formal response from Minister Dabrusin regarding the disbanding of Environment Canada's radar science team. In the interest of full transparency, I'll provide it below without comment in 2 parts. Thanks to everyone who contacted the Minister and your MP about this issue!

Doug Ford is Pacific Mall Trump. He’s gutted education, healthcare, and given away our money to his buds: Ontario Place, Science Centre, Greenbelt, LCBO, Service Ontario. He’s only “protecting” Ontario from Trump so he can continue plundering it for himself. Completely untrustworthy. #onpoli
