I love Automata, I love a lot of PA's short stories honestly. There's a real efficacy of storytelling - a lot said with very little. It all seems effortless but I know it was anything but.

An alternative 1930's where machine intelligence was prohibited instead of alcohol but certain older models were grandfathered in. afaic the early 100s were Elson's art at its very best. The way the deep shadows played off monochrome backgrounds. It added so much depth and atmosphere, and led your eyes around the page by allowing the blue (and green, here) to pop. Also I just like how Sonic looks around here.
