Working my way through 832 entries has unraveled my opinion on what makes a picture book excellent. It isn’t about top notch book design, the technical competence of the artist, compositional innovation, the medium, or the executional difficultly. A picture book is excellent when it makes us feel.

Yay! Under Pressure, my picture book on Freddie Mercury has arrived. Illustrated by Pankaj Saikia and published by Perky Parrot(Niyogi books), the book captures the final minutes before the musician overcame bullies to give his first band performance in an Indian boarding school.
