I love not using AI. I love reading books written by human beings, hand-sewing little creatures, watching for bats during dusk, listening to human experts to learn about a topic. Not using AI is very fun.

genAI slop has no business being anywhere near ANY transcriptions. Ever. Y'know, same tech currently denying people insurance coverage by getting their claim approvals completely wrong. It is wrong in EVERY usage. Shit tech, should be banned, period.

Recently, FamilySearch digitized and uploaded tons of microfilmed records, including many from 18th-century Massachsuetts. They're using some sort of AI to transcribe/summarize the handwritten documents. I've noticed that the AI strips out references to race and enslavement in 18thc documents.

In the Star Trek DS9 episode "The Way of The Warrior," the space battle scene called for so many Klingon ships that they actually used a bunch of Hallmark ornaments for the ones in the background.

What's your "He actually broke his toe here" thing? The factoid you can't help but share whenever it comes up. For me, it's how the punk on the bus in Star Trek IV actually wrote and recorded the song that he's playing because he was annoyed the original song they had didn't sound punk at all.
