Ultimately I think Sony is following the market, and the market is older, less willing to go to a store and buy a disc, and more willing to just buy new. And the younger generations that run counter to that are not filling in the blank spaces. The trends are what suck here.

If you're curious what a non-preservationist gaming ecosystem looks like, you can look at the mobile stores, where most of the shit you remember does not exist in any form anymore.

A lot of chatter about how PlayStation is doing so much with Rockstar for GTA6, stuff that they don't do for their first party titles, etc. GTA5 is literally the 2nd best selling game of all time, and GTA6 will eclipse the sales of any of Sony's PS5 first party titles easily.

I've waited so long for RetroSpace, it's Space Disco Bioshock 🕺🪩 They just released a demo today! I finished the demo and it lived up to what I had hoped for, can't wait for the full release on June 11. Give it a try yourself if this interests you. store.steampowered.com/app/2067820/...

I really do like the Personalized Calendar Steam just added, I never used the popular upcoming list to begin with and this calendar just seemed much more useful for me.

There's certainly an interesting convo regarding Xbox's renewed "case by case" console exclusivity and its calculus, but I haven't heard anyone talk about how none of these decisions changed Game Pass day one on these titles. I mean isn't that part of the original math why they released on the PS5?

longer development time/cost, live service trend chase higher cost of entry, expensive console, games are factors as well = less game output the need to innovate, either create a must buy game or lower costs and produce more good games each year is needed here. all of which are hard to accomplish.

NEW: Sony's been selling millions fewer first-party PlayStation games (developed or published) almost every year since 2020 On the eve of the next State of Play, it's clear Sony could use more hits Growth in third-party game sales does not appear to be to blame www.gamefile.news/p/playstatio...

Haven't seen this widely discussed, but PlayStation was initially "forced" to do PC porting because their games were taking too long and costing too much compared to its console game sales. Now that they are scaling PC ports back, it doesn't seem like it has solved that previous problem.
