🤯Despite promising to back the ENVI Cttee deal on the EU 2040 climate target, parts of the EPP are now trying to weaken it, pushing to cut the goal to 83% net, further delay ETS2, and undo key improvements! 🚫 The EPP should stop these dirty games, and keep its word to stand by EU climate action!

🚨Yesterday the EU Council finally agreed on a 90% net 2040 climate target. 🔎 But did you spot the dangerous loopholes in the text that threaten this same headline figure just agreed? 😓

⚠️ The Council of the EU has agreed on a 90% net 2040 climate target, but loopholes threaten even its headline figure. Our Climate Policy Coordinator, @silviaval3.bsky.social, explains why this deal is disappointing 👇 Read our reaction to the target here 🔗 caneurope.org/2040-climate...

🌍 A few days before COP, the EU still hasn’t done its homework! Member States have yet to agree on a 2040 emission reduction target and NDC to prove real commitment to the Paris Agreement. 📄 Read our letter calling on EU ministers to act at the ENVI Council on 4 November shorturl.at/x0IFv

🔴 Europe is facing devastating climate impacts, and action can’t wait! Ahead of #COP30, EU ministers at the ENVI Council will decide whether to commit to an ambitious 2040 target or let climate deniers derail progress. 👇 Sign the petition to your environment minister! @wemoveeurope.bsky.social

We won’t let climate-deniers rest

Fires rage across Europe – and extremists call climate action “madness.” Our leaders meet this month to decide our future. Tell them: lock in the 90% emissions cut and reject climate rollbacks.

🌡️Amid the heatwave, the EU Commission finally released its 2040 climate target proposal, with 90% net cuts undermined by the major loophole of international credits. ⏰Now EU policy makers need to quickly agree on an ambitious 2040 target and domestic NDC that live up to the EU responsibility.

The European Commission has taken a pivtol step today with its proposal for a 90% emissions reduction target by 2040 - but this comes as a costly compromise. Check out our full reaction below👇 caneurope.org/eu-2040-clim...

👏 TRUST 👏 THE 👏 SCIENCE 👏 Amid political discussions on weakening the 2040 climate target with 'flexibility' options - @esabcc.bsky.social has today stood up for science. @caneurope.org's @harmeling.bsky.social reacts:

Quote from Sven Harmeling, Head of Climate, CAN Europe:

‘The scientists have spoken that the EU can and must deliver a 90-95% domestic emissions cut by 2040 - without loopholes or international offsets. Undermining the target with so-called ‘flexibilities’ would jeopardise fairness, delay innovation and increase long-term costs. The European Commission, Member States and the European Parliament must trust the science, act early and adopt 2035 and 2040 targets that are aligned with climate reality’.

In its new advice, the @esabcc.bsky.social reaffirms its recommendation for EU Policy: 90–95% net domestic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 is both feasible and keeps the EU on a credible path to climate neutrality. 🚨 RED ALERT: the already insufficiently ambitious EU 90% net emission reduction target for 2040 is at risk, with the EU Commission considering including major loopholes 😱. Learn more in my article 👀👇 @wopkehoekstra.ec.europa.eu @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu @teresaribera.ec.europa.eu

🌍 The EU's #2040Target risks becoming a patchwork of loopholes: backloading, carbon offsets, inflated removals & sectoral swaps. 📉 These aren't tweaks, they are dangerous shortcuts that undermine trust, ambition & global leadership. Read more:
