I work at the European Space Agency as the mission scientist for the Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3 next generation missions. I mainly post nice pictures of the Earth from space! Note: Not an official ESA account, opinions are my own and mine alone!

Drought conditions across Western Europe - the effects of our hot, dry, summer so far These two pics were taken by the Copernicus Sentinel-3 mission ~7 weeks apart. The effects of limited rainfall and hot, clear, weather are clearly visible: Much of Western Europe is looking desert-like from space.

Sentinel-2 and wildfires: These last few days, a devastating wildfire has been raging near Los Gallardos in Spain - sadly resulting in multiple deaths and significant destruction. This pic was taken on 10th July by Sentinel-2A, the scale of the fire clearly visible.

Breathtaking! As a child I wanted to travel to the Moon...as an adult, my height worked against me and my travel plans - but I was hooked on space anyway! Delighted to see a joint American + European success on Artemis II! @esa.int supplying the service module. 💪🛰️

Dual use: If we like it or not, all civilian sats have defence-related uses. This video shows the Russian Arctic Metagaz LNG carrier exploding after reportedly being hit by Ukranian drones. It comes from @eumetsat.int's Meteosat-12, a weather satellite. Weather is civil, but we see so much more.

Earlier in Feb, Cyclone Gezani hit Mozambique, sadly resulting in fatalities anddamage to buildings Here, two Sentinel-2 pics show the impacts: Flooding inland, and a hugerunoff heading into the ocean. S2 is critical for disaster response - and we plan to improve its value for the next gen mission!

Fifty two thousand six hundred orbits around our wonderful little planet! Congrats Sentinel-3A! Later this year, younger brother S3C will be launched - ready to take over the operational optical imaging duties so that S3A can enjoy a well-deserved retirement 😀

Today we’re celebrating 52,600 orbits of Earth by the Sentinel‑3A satellite, together with @euspa.bsky.social and @eumetsat.int For ten years, it has been delivering data on oceans, land, ice and atmosphere. The constellation will grow with the launch of Sentinel‑3C in late 2026🚀

A night‑time photo of the Sentinel‑3A satellite launch, showing the rocket rising from the pad amid bright orange flames and thick billowing smoke. The rocket and launch towers are illuminated against a dark sky.

Kinda shocked at how the Netherlands copes with a little bit of snow. Every train cancelled, roads not clear, people "stocking up on supplies in case shops close". But, tbh, im glad to know its not just the UK that cant handle winter weather. I thought blighty was the exception 😂

Huge dust storms in Pakistan, seen by the @esa.int / @ec.europa.eu Sentinel-2B and Sentinel-3B satellites on 4th November. Neither satellite was designed to monitor dust plumes, so it's impressive how much information they give us about the detail and extent of these storms!

Along the N. Coast of Alaska, winter is closing in. These pics ages, from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission, were taken just two weeks apart. Heavy snowfall on land, and the beginnings of ice on sea. Soon, the sun will be too low and Sentinel-2 will stop acquiring images until Springtime.

Insane. This is Hurricane #Melissa seen right near landfall by the Copernicus / @esa.int Sentinel-2C satellite. It looks so beautiful, and it's hard to comprehend how much destruction a hurricane like this can cause. Best wishes to everyone in Jamaica.

17 hours of #Hurricane #Melissa seen from space compressed into 9 seconds. Weather sats are vital for monitoring and forecasting Hurricanes. Without them, our forecasts would be much worse - increasing the danger posed by these monsterous storms. Data: NOAA / GOES-19 Video: ESA / Simon Proud

Am taking some time for relaxation in the Alps, so apologies for being slow to respond to messages and comments. Will be back in the world of space-based Earth Observation soon, but for now im enjoying EO at slightly lower altitudes 🙂
