Spent the day at an English Heritage castle watching a reenactment of the Battle Hastings, in true #HistoryTeacher style I think Y7 would have a firmer grasp of History if I was allowed to use horses.

In term 6 I did a IT/research lesson with Y7 on the history of fashion. They were allowed to pick any time periods, any location, any particular look (sports uniforms/ military/ footwear etc). Because IT had air-con and mine was 30c. They came up with such a range of topics... #historyteacher
Back Home by Michelle Magorian was it for me. I was obsessed with WWII afterwards #historyteacher

Settling down to read the new @histassoc.bsky.social mag. My 3 year old is very confused "why are you reading about history teaching. You already know how to do that." Attempted to explain CPD theories but he wandered off to play cars. #historyteacher
My lesson planning has got faster each year. Unless I'm planning something I really care about, and I get super excited and side tracked and try to fit a degree level amount of info into one Y7 lesson. Then feel physically pained when I have to strip it back a bit. Anyone else?

Despite a rather late night watching the football at #SHP26, the keynote by @marnieh-w.bsky.social on artificial intelligence and assessment has left me feeling invigorated and excited to get planning. Luckily i have a 9 hour train journey to get my thoughts in order!

Afternoon in Bristol and my first visit to M Shed Museum in about 4 years. The People of Bristol exhibition is particularly brilliant, good to see Colston with some context instead of on a plinth.
According to TES: Teachers reported less of an interest for subject- or phase-specific knowledge or pedagogy in CPD than in 2023: 33 per cent in 2024, down from 38 per cent. Clearly, none of the 66% have ever been to @1972shp.bsky.social or @histassoc.bsky.social history conferences.
Today I like to tell my non teacher friends I don't think it is fair that we have a bank holiday at the same time as our half term and we should have another in lieu. This is Very Fun.
