Self-indulgent and city-centric.

It’s bittersweet to see this get posted the same day our grifter of a premier gets to destroy some of the city’s most useful infrastructure. But at least one good Toronto-related thing happened today, and it all comes back to the humble pig.

today's newsletter is about Canadian bacon (what it is and isn't), why Toronto is nicknamed Hogtown, and Barbra Streisand demands a sandwich: buttondown.com/theswordandt...

Just the kind of day where it feels like I should cut out the middleman and move right into the heart of separatist Alberta. Get the full end result of Fordism today, beat the rush. The immensely disabling headache for unrelated reasons isn’t helping.

Gonna post all sorts of complaining about Ricky Gervais’s new cartoon cat cartoon show, except it’ll all be plagiarized one-star reviews of Garfield books with the names changed. I expect it will take five months before any of the chuds stop self-congratulating and notice what I’ve done.

I wish I could love anything as much as Toronto's car-addicted whiners love the food at that mediocre restaurant in High Park. The food at that restaurant will certainly never fulfill that need for me, alas, on account of my having eaten there at older than the age of nine.

About to go commit some global-scale human rights violations! Fortunately I’ve got a really expensive lawyer on call, so I know Amnesty International will keep their goddamn mouths shut about it. Maybe later I’ll go force them to apologize to me for, well, I’ll make up a reason when the time comes.

My god. These are the sorts of numbers that would get five thousand ”ha ha what a loser I call him PEEPEE which is a HIGH-larious comedy genius play on words because that’s what a child might call a certain BODY PART” replies if it was the other guy. We are doomed.

The SSI Gold Box engine for Dungeons & Dragons. Games released multiple titles a year for four years (most of which allowed importing characters from earlier games), a MMORPG, and a full construction kit. And now 85% of the people reading are saying "oh, like Baldur's Gate?".

what's everyone else's fab examples of once massively popular and influential landmark titles in especially western games from back in the day that have just been forgotten and abandoned completely now. mine is black and white

And every time the response to this correct statement is “so you expect open source developers to be slaves to these morons?”, Microsoft and Adobe make another $50 million. *Someone* is going to write software for the people who can’t write it themselves. You choose who that someone is.

Look, I’m an open source maintainer, and if you want people to use that FOSS software as an alternative to that proprietary software it’s good to understand why people wanted to use that proprietary software in the first place and why they might be hesitant to switch It’s not because users are dumb

Well, now to take a big sip of water and look at the day’s news, which I am 100% certain will not contain anything where two of the country’s most-loathed conservatives confirm that Mark Carney is allowed to do whatever he wants that is also what the worst people in Alberta want.

If I had wanted snide lectures that anyone who doesn’t want Danielle Smith to burn every gram of fossil fuel hates Canada and is trying to destroy the country, I would have voted for Pierre Poilievre. At least then I’d have gotten the snide lectures *and* a big tax cut.

Carney: The climate plan we inherited from the previous government was well-intentioned and well-suited for the times in which it was designed ... In the current environment, the old plan was an open opportunity for those people who wish to pull Canada apart, both at home and from abroad.

If i ever do a villain heel turn, the first three things I buy will be the biggest SUV I can afford, and two bumper stickers for it that say “‘carbon footprint‘ was invented by Big Oil to make you feel guilty for existing” and “100 corporations are responsible for 90% of climate change”.

The real horseshoe theory is that both Bluesky posters and the New York Post are mad at Zohran for making the same recommendation that ConEd makes during every heat wave because everyone is allergic to personal responsibility now
