Koji Suzuki's Ring is a lot less horror focused than the movies based on it, surprisingly. It's closer to a mystery novel with scifi-supernatural elements weaved in which mostly work in the background. Parts of it were really problematic, but it was engrossing throughout. Enjoyed.
