One day in 2020, I went to a coffee shop. I was so sick of working 100-hour weeks from home with a newborn that I loaded up the stroller, grabbed my laptop bag (the one with the big World Health Organization logo on it), and headed out. When I got there, I started typing a YLE post.

Hard to believe I haven't done so yet, but it's time to start making my way through the Hainish Cycle. I've only read LeGuin's Earthsea trilogy, which blew me away, many years ago. Time to explore the rest. Long overdue. Looking forward to it.

Up at the crack of dawn today in Chicago to see the incredible sunrise off the lake. Joined unexpectedly by a large crowd of young people doing the same. Did not have to run back inside afterward to escape the crime.

Being in another city for a conference is so much more enjoyable when there is a comic convention happening at the same time. It’s so awesome seeing crowds of people—friends, families, individuals—all in happy, full self expression, and all completely nerding out. I love it.
