Hundreds of passionate Tasmanians attended the public meeting to protest against funding and staff cuts to TMAG. Quite a few Green and independent pollies there, but none from Labor. They care about dog racing and a footy stadium but not our precious arts, culture and heritage. Shame! #politas

This is the consequence of a buildup of guns in civilian hands. Despite the best endeavours of governments in 1996 to move away from a US gun culture, the Shooters Party and past governments in New South Wales are partly delivering up to us, whether we like it or not. #auspol #guncontrolaustralia

Heavily armed police unit set to hit Sydney's streets

The new long-arms carrying unit is expected to begin public training on Sydney's streets after months of secretive work behind the scenes.

As predicted, more cuts in education. What we failed to predict was that the Minister would deny the cuts. $1.5 billion in cuts for a $1.5 billion stadium (+ $ 1/4 billion in interest): join the dots. And where is the ALP on this? #nonewstadium #politas

Teacher support team faces job cuts a week after denial from minister's office

Tasmanian Education Minister Jo Palmer's office claimed there were no proposals to cut a specialist team that works with teachers. A week later, the team is being cut by a quarter.

The Tas. Parlt. Public Acc’s C’tee has damned the govt. for misleading evidence it gave over Wilkinsons Point, to another C’tee in Dec 2020. The govt. failed to disclose a subsidy. The leader of the govt. deleg. in 2020, now Mac Pt. Chair, Kim Evans, has some explaining to do. #nonewstadium #politas

Tas. HIA complains today about a lack of “shovel-ready” land for new homes. Macquarie Point is shovel ready for homes for about 3000 people. And it will employ many people as the project is developed over the years. And it will cost 1/10 of the cost of a stadium. #nonewstadium #politas

Josh Willie says “you could cancel the stadium and the budget problems would remain”. Tas always has budget problems. But cancelling the stadium would improved Tas’ budget problems enormously, and in turn stop the budget getting worse over the next 10 years. Join the dots. #nonewstadium #politas

Cancelling Macquarie Point stadium wouldn't solve Tasmania's budget problems, Labor leader says - No New Stadium

ABC Radio: Tasmania's Opposition Leader Josh Willie has addressed concerns the state government can't afford to build the AFL stadium at Macquarie Point in Hobart while cutting 1,700 jobs from the sta...

Experts sounding alarm bells to Tas. Liberal government on massive projects in Tasmania with no social licence and backed by big corporate interests. And where the corporates behind AI data centres are sponsoring Tas AFL teams in a PR move. What could possibly go wrong? #nonewstadium #politas

This report is both astonishing and unsurprising. An argument for regulation and even a shutdown. We can’t have computer programs telling people how to commit mass shootings. It’s bad enough that some nation’s leaders are sponsoring terrorism in neighbouring countries and territories.

Trump’s banning of entire media outlines is part and parcel of what authoritarians do to a free press. Authoritarians simply do not like a free press — and the latest escalation from Trump is a dangerous moment for a functioning democracy.

The Mercury has been accused of spiking a story about an opinion poll that shows strong public support for disclosing the estimated cost of building the Macquarie Point stadium. Asked why, the editor told #TasInq he won't be responding. #politas ▶️ tasmanianinquirer.com.au/news/the-mer...

The Mercury accused of spiking stadium polling story | Tasmanian Inquirer

Tasmania’s major newspaper has been accused of axing an exclusive story on polling showing public support for disclosing the cost of the Macquarie Pt stadium.

Today’s Mercury suggests that without a stadium at MAC Point, Hobart - and Tasmania - are doomed. The truth is the exact opposite. My theory continues to be that the more problematic the stadium becomes, the more they (Mercury and gov’t) pump out these kind of articles. #nonewstadium #politas

30 years after the Port Arthur massacre, Tasmania is again pressing to be gun capital of Australia. Despite the Premier agreeing to look at caps on gun numbers in Dec 2025 after the Bondi massacre, they’ve let the gun lobby run the show. If only there was strong leadership… #guncontrolaustralia

No cap on gun ownership in Tasmania after Labor amendment fails

There will not be a cap on the number of guns a person can own in Tasmania, after the lower house voted not to amend the state government's firearms reform legislation.
